Spock's Beard Survivor 2019 - Results & Discussion

(1/7) > >>

The Letter M:
Hello and welcome to my 4th Annual(?) Spock's Beard Survivor, for the 2019 season! Here I will post the album results, and eventually, the finals!

To start off with, I'll post the track lists/options for each survivor, then as we finish each album, I'll update the track lists with the final results.

As usual, the top two songs on each album go to the finals, and each album's 3rd place song will move to Consolation, with the exception of Snow, which will have it's 5th and 6th place songs move into Consolation, while it's top 4 songs will move to the Finals (as I have done with previous double albums in other Survivors).

Because of that, the Consolation Rounds will consist of 14 songs (2 from Snow, and 1 each from the other 12 albums) and the Finals will consist of at least 34 songs (4 from Snow, and 2 from each of the other 12 albums, plus the top 2 of the Consolation Rounds and the top 4 from the B-Sides/Bonus Tracks Survivor*).

The Letter M:
Some points to discuss if anyone has any opinions one way or the other:

1- I was wondering if anyone would think it better or worse if I split up "A Flash Before My Eyes" into its six separate tracks for the Octane survivor. The last three times I've done the SB Survivor, it was done as one track, and I don't think anyone really objected to it, but I was wondering if changing it would make any difference for anyone here?

2- Should I continue to include the covers in the Bonus Tracks/B-Side/Non-Album Songs survivor? I did last time, and there's only four of them. Like Snow (and other double-albums I've run in the past), this B-Sides Survivor will probably start with multiple-vote/multi-elimination rounds to help narrow it down pretty quickly, and help voters knock out multiple songs they probably don't like as much as the others, rather than drag the whole thing out for 25 rounds.

3- Japanese Exclusive Bonus Tracks. There are three that I am aware of, two from SB9 ("A Hypernova Explosion" and "Red Sea") and one from Noise Floor ("Save Our Souls"). Should I bother including them, since I'm sure I'm one of the few SB fans that actually owns or have actually even heard them?

-Marc.

RoeDent:
Nice! Looking forward to this. First time competing for Noise Floor, if I'm correct. As for the questions:

1. I think Flash should be listed as one song. If you split Flash, you have to split the other NDV-era epics, because what's the difference?

2. I guess on the same principle of consistency, you have to include the covers in the non-album survivor, because of Beware of Darkness, the George Harrison cover that's the title track of their second album.

3. I've never heard those songs, so...eh? I dunno...

DTA:
Definitely one song. I imagine you'll do Healing Colours, As Far As The Mind Can See, and Sid as one track too right?

--- End quote ---

I think the one difference between AFBME and those other indexed-epics is that AFBME, if I recall, had multiple and different writers for its separate tracks, while THCOS, AGNS, and AFATMCS were all written by one (or two) people - Neal, Nick, and Meros/Boegehold respectively. That was my only line of thinking with regards to separating Flash into its seven tracks, but if most people want it kept together as one, I will leave it as such! I just wanted to throw out that possibility!

And yes, RoeDent, this is the first SB Survivor to feature Noise Floor. The last time I did it was in 2016, just several months after The Oblivion Particle and The First Twenty Years were released.
