I remember addressing this previously... I think the 99% of people here agree that Scenes from a Memory is one of the greatest things ever happened to mankind, along the invention of the wheel and human rights, but anyone feels that, in the end, we didn't really get a "Metropolis Part 2 - the song"? as in, another song in the same style of Metropolis such as This Dying Soul is a direct continuation of The Glass Prison?
Well, I still prefer Scenes from a Memory as an album rather than the potentially 25 minutes long Metropolis part 2 that the demo of the song hinted at, but if there had been a Metropolis part 2 song, it definitively would have been Home. Another song with musical and lyrical callbacks to the original, such as in the AA saga.
If Home in itself was called Metropolis Part 2, as in the song, then in comparison, it would've been a woefully inferior follow up to Metropolis. Ultimately, I think what they did was smart, because I mean, we did get an idea of what Metropolis Part 2 the song would have sounded like in the Falling Into Infinity Demos, and it wouldn't have been like Home, so maybe in the end, a 20 minute epic like that, which incorporates what we now know as various parts of the Scenes album, would've been incredibly well received, but maybe it would have ended up being an underwhelming sequel no matter what, given how awesome, and generally loved the song Metropolis is.
So in the end, it was probably the right decision to make the follow-up, Metropolis Part 2, a whole album, instead of just one sequel song.
