Wow, DT has a LOT of 10+ minute songs. Why 10 minutes as the cutoff? It's a round number, and if I lowered it so that we could get, for example, Metropolis, At Wit's End, and Pale Blue Dot, we would have a bunch of other songs too, and this poll is huge as it is. I also didn't include SOC, since it is an instrumental.

Anyhow, I'll post my ranking later. (maybe just my top 10) But Six Degrees takes the #1 spot.

I have a playlist with a large portion of their songs ranked, but I haven't updated it for a few years. Just had a quick look over it and moved a couple of things slightly (as well as adding some of my favourite songs from The Astonishing and D/T - though obviously they don't feature in this list). So I've got something like this, separated into tiers. Songs may move around slightly in each tier, but are unlikely to switch tiers.

Great topic but since there are 30+ songs to choose from, it would be a more accurate poll if it allowed the voters to pick their top 10 or at least their top 5 and then compile the votes after about 100 people have each voted for their top 5 or 10...just picking one of these 30 songs is just not gonna tell us much...

Definitely A change of seasons for me.

It always amazes me how when I listen to it, that it in no way feels like 23 mins. Its so well constructed that it just flies right by, and I thoroughly enjoy it from beginning to end.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably do the poll differently and let people pick their top 5 (or if I really wanted to copy Kev, maybe top 7). But I wasn't thinking about that when I started the poll and modeled it after the thread where I only listed the much smaller number of "mega epics."

It’s quite a job so maybe I’ll contribute later but Scarred is my favorite DT song period. For others it might just be an OK track with jarring transitions and a standout JP guitar solo, but somehow this one DT track just does it for me. If I had to eliminate all DT songs but one, this one would be my saver.

I think that every time I see polls like this, or when I make my picks in the 'league' game being played in the poll subforum right now. Dream Theater aren't my favourite band (because Pink Floyd are unassailable for me) but they are the band that have the highest number of songs that I consider to be incredible. Most bands, even my favourites, have maybe 20 songs at most I think of as brilliant. DT have something like 50.
