Need new music suggestion please
« on: March 31, 2019, 02:03:17 PM »
Hey, haven't post here in a while. Anyway, I'm looking for some new music right now if you have any recommendations that would be more than welcome.

I'm looking for emotianal music idealy with great guitar and piano. Few examples:

1) Anathema: The whole Weather Systems album, dreaming light
2) Porcupine Tree: Lazarus, Collapse Light into earth
3) Pain of Salvation: A trace of blook, Undertow
4) Voices from the Fuselage- A principle of god
5) Dream Theater: The Spirit carries on, One last time, at wit's end, the ministry of lost souls, the best of times
6) Blackfield: Pain, Once
7) Riverside: The night before, we got used to us
8) Glaston- Sailing under stormy waters
9) The pineapple Thief: The final thing on my mind

Other than the bands mentionned above and not too old sound if possible. Many thanks!!!  ;D :tup

If you want super moody and emosh modern prog with great piano, iamthemorning is the way to go imo.

But other than that, some great songs like that would be:

Opeth - Windowpane (and the entire Damnation album)
Steven Wilson (assuming you're familiar with him, but just in case) - Routine, Drive Home
Galahad - This Life Could Be My Last
Unitopia - One Day (not on Spotify)
Orphaned Land - Brother
Blind Guardian - Curse My Name
Snarky Puppy - Even Us
Nightwish - The Islander; The Crow, The Owl, & The Dove; Turn Loose the Mermaids
Epica - Twin Flames (not on Spotify), White Waters, Chasing the Dragon (gets very heavy in parts tho)
Yes - Fly from Here, Part II: Sad Night at the Airfield (either version, full song isn't this type of music, but is still worth checking out, also not on Spotify)
Gazpacho
Haken - As Death Embraces, Bound by Gravity, Nocturnal Conspiracy (especially the back half)
Redemption - Black & White World
Submotion Orchestra (an electronic jazz band, does not have guitar)
Beyond the Bridge - Where The Earth and Sky Meet (HIGHLY recommend this entire album)
Diablo Swing Orchestra - Ode to the Innocent

Hi! These are some artists you might want to check out:
  • Florence + The Machine: her latest two albums; there are many cool piano songs ("Caught" and "Patricia") with some nice strings and wind instruments.
  • Lautaro Ríos: "Reinventar", from his 2015 first solo album: https://lautarorios.bandcamp.com/track/reinventar. You can also check out "Huella", from his 2018 second solo album: https://youtu.be/DEhEr29izMg
  • Coldplay: their 2008 album Viva La Vida, in particular.

My suggestion would be to sign up for a roulette. It's a fun game we play here to discover new music. You can find all you need to know in the second post of the link below.

Does it need to be prog?

Deas Vail - All the houses look the same
Keane - Hopes and fears
K's Choice - Almost happy
Pure Reason Revolution - The dark third
Thirteen Senses - The invitation

Lots of great stuff there. Really fits what I asked for. Opeth, Haken, Nightwish,SW, Redemption already knew.
Need more listen overall but really liked This life could be my last. Also, Beyond the Bridge- Where The Earth and Sky Meet is exactly the kind of song I'm looking for (same vibe as Weather System I feel). This song is incredible.

Yeah Coldplay I know them, they're great! Never really got into Florence + The Machine but will give them a try!

Didn't find or understood the rules after a quick search...

Oceansize - The Frame
Chroma Key - On the Page
Neverending White Lights - The Grace
The Antlers - Bear

Oceansize is on my list of band to discover. Neverending White Lights was pretty good too!

I generally prefer prog but doesn't necessarily have to be! After first listen, I enjoyed your suggestions. Keane I was already familiar with a few of their song (most popular) but I'll check out the rest.

Seventh Wonder - Mercy Falls

If you haven't heard it before, you're welcome!  ;)

P.s. give it until about track 6-7 to really sink in...

If it's piano based and proggy you're after, then +1 for iamthemorning. Also, Kate Bush. The "Sky of Honey" part of her Aerial album is, frankly, brilliant.

I hope their what you're looking for.

Oceansize (and Vennart) I think is a good one given how popular they are among Dream Theater fans.

Neverending White Lights have some incredibly moving songs, The Grace being one of their best. I would definitely consider checking out their albums, but one thing to know is their songs vary in a lot of ways, even just down to the singers. Nearly every song they have recorded has had a different singer (kind of like Ayreon if you may know).

"The Grace" features Dallas Green of City and Colour/Alexisonfire. I don't recall him singing any other tunes from NWL.
The 1 singer who has been on a couple of other standout tracks from NWL is Jimmy Gnecco of Ours.
"Our Final Hymn" and "Dove Coloured Sky" are 2 of the other NWL songs that may be worth hearing, to hear more.
