Parts of songs you have to rewind and listen to again
« on: March 28, 2019, 09:53:10 AM »
You know how it is. You're listening to an awesome track, then a particular part comes up, plays through and it's just so damn awesome you just have to hit the rewind button and listen to it again. What are your favourite examples of this?

For me, atm one is the final chorus of Haken's Puzzle Box ("How can truth set us free..."). Even though they repeat it, it's a stunning passage, the temptation to rewind and relive that bit is enormous!

The keyboard run in Awaken at about 4:30 seconds.  It only happens once in the song, for no really apparent reason, and yet... it's even a ring tone for me.

The "why can't we give love one more chance... why can't we give love..." part of "Under Pressure" from the "Live Magic" CD.

There are lots, but the first one that came to mind is the part in DT's About to Crash Reprise right after the keyboard solo, where JM and JP play a unison part while JR plays a string pad, starting at 2:42 (or, more broadly, the entire instrumental part starting at 1:57).

The other one is in Blind Faith, starting with the line "and still life pushes on" (starting at 4:33), and more particularly, the instrumental section from 5:41 through 7:31.

I can discipline myself and listen to a whole song without stopping it.  :hat
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I sometimes fast forward to the riff at 4:12 in Diary of a Madman just so I can hear it and then rewind and play it again a few more times.

Also, it's rare that I don't rewind back to the start of JP's solo as The Best of Times fades out. Same goes for Octavarium.

The first 4 measures of the solo to " I Am A Viking ". The bass guitar on the second half of "Trilogy Op. 5 ". The last section of " Opus Pocus " from Jason Becker , very strange transition to an equally strange melody.

The brutal riff and solo part in Death's Pull The Plug always pumps me up so I rewind that frequently when lifting

I agree about Leave That Thing Alone, it's amazing live!

The last two minutes of Diablo Swing Orchestra's Justice for Saint Mary
The ossia cadenza from Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto
That squelchy synth riff from Haken's Nil by Mouth
The metalstep part of Haken's The Endless Knot
The breakdown in Gojira's' L'enfant sauvage
The record scratch guitar solo in Muse's Break it to Me

The whole 23 minutes of Supper's Ready. After this colossal masterpiece, there is really no appropriate follow-up.

Totally agree with Stadler on Under Pressure. Truly a magic crescendo.

In The Air Tonight. I think I don't need to mention the exact part.

The finale of Relayer. While Gates Of Delirium is still the masterpiece of the album (and one of my top 3 songs of all time), the finale of To Be Over is one of the greatest and most touching parts ever for me. It might sound cheesy, but I always hear church bells in the background at the end, although I know that there are no church bells in this song. Anyone feel the same?

The "the rhythm has my soooooouuuuuul" part in the original recording of Peter Gabriel's The Rhythm Of The Heat.

And here's my guilty pleasure song: I absolutely adore Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know. I never listen to it only once. For a prog fan, this song is just so damn short! :D Also, I always sing (or better: scream) along with Kimbra when she (brilliantly) introduces the second chorus with " I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you USED TO KNOOOOHOOOOOW".

Oh I just thought of another one: Marillion's Throw Me Out is also way too short (yet perfect just because of that) and I always listen to it at least twice. This is a song that seemingly no one cares for, but I just love it.

That's on the Yes 3CD Box The Word Is Live.  I really love the vibe on that one.  Never get sick of it.

My go to version of Leave That Thing Alone is on Different Stages. Actually Resist on that album is another song I hit repeat on quite often along with Closer To The Heart mostly because of the "improv" jam at the end.

A million times yes. So many moments from Happiness is the Road that could qualify but this song in particular chimes with me and warrants that immediate replay quality. Such beautiful instrumentation and that outro alone could make this my thread entry. This and the closing couple of minutes of Somewhere Else. Such a magical band.

Threw Me Out is honestly my favorite song from HITR and a super-underrated Marillion song that NOBODY ever talks about. This thread is honestly the first time I've ever seen it mentioned. The ending is really anthemic and powerful.

The "Marbles" snippets from Marbles, especially Marbles III ("Zinging glass satellites...").  That melody is, to me, infectious.

JR/JP unisons... first, coming out of the instrumental breakdown of ITNOG; and 2nd at the end of ITPOE pt1.
Closer to the Heart Outro from Different Stages.
Red Barchetta - the outro riff from the guitar solo (right before "Suddenly ahead of me ....").  Damn I wish they did a double stanza of that.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".
