Your Four Favorites Of The DTIFC Releases?
« on: February 28, 2019, 03:12:29 PM »
Just including the official DTIFC releases, so no ATCO Demos or "Stream Of Consciousness" Song-writing Contest discs from the Theater Of Dreams.

I was debating whether or not to have you all pick THREE or FOUR, but there are some strong discs here and I figured even 4 out of 13 is still a hard choice to make, might as well make it a bit easier than having to narrow it down to three.

I've recently been listening to some of these, like the Graspop and Homecoming discs, which are both very good, but there's some more great stuff here, like Cleaning Out The Closet (the largest collection of non-album DT songs), and the Scenes From A World Tour compilation features some fun moments from the SFAM tour! What are your favorites of these 13 fan club releases?

Ditto.  Before getting it, had never heard any of those songs except To Live Forever, and many of them are now among my favorites.  Raise The Knife, yo

Cleaning Out The Closet. If it were a legit album it'd fall in the higher end of my DT ranking. Eve and Speak To Me are 2 of the best songs the band have written, and the rest of it ain't too shabby either.

Behind that, Romavarium.

The only thing that irks me about the 15th Anniversary of Images and Words release is when folks use it to justify us not getting an official release of Images, Words, and Beyond. I've heard some argue that we don't need a new release, because of the 15th anniversary release. But I disagree, since the majority of DT fans have never heard that release and have no legit means of getting their hands on it.

But I dig Graspop Festival. Super heavy set, and I like the modified opening to Home. It was also the first time I ever heard Master of Puppets.

It's easy to figure that Cleaning Out the Closet will be the winner, and it is my number 1 choice. That said, my 3 other choices are in the following order:
1998 - OiaL outtakes   <--- perfect companion to OiaL
2003 - Graspop 2002
2008 - PN2008   <--- perfect companion to CiM
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Thankfully I have all of them. I really miss the anticipation of what we were going to get for Christmas with each release.
Same thing with the official bootleg series that used to happen. I sure would love if the band could somehow make a deal with MP to continue to release the earlier material...

I have Cleaning out the Closet. I am sure what most of these are, and have doubtfully not heard any of them.

So not much for me to contribute here. I remember first getting online in the early 2000s and learning more about DT, and this mysterious CotC CD, and excitedly finding a way to obtain it (not something I did often). Everyone online is talking about how great this CD is! And.... it's kinda mediocre. I've never been a fan of this era so I'm not sure why I expected to enjoy this. SOme B-sides of an album with only a couple of A-sides, and some unreleased tracks that are better off this way. Cool novelty and gift to the fans, but not something I ever listen to.

1, 3, 4, and 7. And as for controversial opinions. I probably prefer listening to all of those over anything from 2002-2009. 😬

I couldn't possibly answer this fairly due to my involvement in the creation of some of these ;)

So I answered based on the period I wasn't involved (pre 2000) ;)
