MOONsults
12. Parama...Parius - Crashing Black Moon
"This is fucking cool."
I think right off the bat, I knew this would win the round. It's pretty intense, and has this really cool interlude before it gets intense again. It has a great last 90 seconds that seals the deal. I'm gonna check this album out between rounds. I have no idea what to expect though.
11. Wolfking...In Flames - Moonshield
"Excellent"
Really happy with this one. I sampled In Flames back in the early 00's. I just remember their vocals being unlistenable. I see this is from an even earlier album. These vocals are doable. Musically it hits the spot. Weird but I could totally see Dave Murray playing this.
Really enjoyed this.
10. Kwyjibo...Joe Satriani - Big Bad Moon
"Best George Thorogood song he never released."
I'll be honest, this was the biggest surprise. I don't know very much Satriani. My ears sometimes glaze over on guitar hero instrumentals. But this song had vocals. But it also has Satriani ripping to shreds guitar playing. Love how the verses set up the ridiculous guitar lines.
9. Elite...Nevermore - Moonrise
"This is a strong tune. I can see why you sent it."
So....I actually have this album. I allowed this because I bought the album when it came out, and I literally haven't listened since the first and only listen. So this is basically new to me.
I'm gonna revisit this album. This is a great tune. The vocals remind me a bit of Blaze Bayley. I knew this would be top half of the round right off.
8. Kattelox...Rhapsody Of Fire - Age Of The Red Moon
"I'm sure it was pure coincidence that I am listening to this at the same time I take my insulin each night."
I expected this to be cheesy, but it's not at all. This song kicks ass. Reminds me of Fabio's work on Vision Divine's Destination. Love the energy throughout this song. Great playing and this really hits the spot. I feel like every time I've dropped the needle on RoF, I was far from impressed. But this song totally works.
7. Kingshmegland...Asia - Blue Moon Monday
"This was better. A bit too long though."
I liked this so much more than the other Asia songs I got earlier. I feel like this one actually had a purpose. Kind of odd that it's still called Asia with just the original keyboard player left. This has a really cool Pink Floyd vibe that really grew on me as the round went on. This really grew in me.
6. Stadler...The Firm - Midnight Moonlight
"Not sure this will stick out. You're likely to be disappointed with its score."
Been over 30 years since I've heard this tune. I was worried when I saw it come in. Yet I really enjoyed this. It was so chill in this otherwise very upbeat round. This song is very subtle, but it is so comforting. My memory is that The Firm blew, but this is a powerful and soulful song.
5. Evermind...Last Tribe - Full Moon
"This was..um..solid."
This was a good track that I think has trouble standing out here. I definitely liked it and the score does not do my enjoyment of this justice. I just feel like it had a hard time standing out, and ultimately the chorus dragged this down.
4. Puppies On Acid...Kardashev - Beyond Sun And Moon
"Holy motherfucker! What in the fuck? I like it!"
Oh Boy..The first half of this song is like a two minute car accident. I liked it on first listen, but with each subsequent listen, I couldn't wait to get to the second half of the song, which was quite enjoyable.
3. Indiscipline...Dark Moor - The Moon
"Geez, I got up and grabbed a beer and this song was still playing!"
I don't know that I'm in love with the blatant Beethoven part. But other than that, this reminded me a lot of Heavenly, and band that I am a huge fan of their first three albums. So while I love that style, the symphonic elements bring this down. But this song, while too long, was certainly a pleasant journey.
2. Lethean...Star One - High Moon
"Not sure this will stick out. You're likely to be disappointed with its score."
I think the problem I had here is that this is a victim of stiff competition. Nothing in this song really stood out. I hear Damian Wilson and Russel Allen, but I'm not a huge fan of either of them. To overcome that, the music had to offer a lot more. I will say that I loved the Zero The Hero riff after the chorus.
1. Senecadawg2...Leprous - Moon
"It was OK. Gonna need some more listens."
I think most of you will be shocked by this, but I have to be honest, I enjoyed every other song in this round more than this one. Another band I've dropped the needle on, but I just don't connect with Leprous at all, I guess. Parama ghost sent me a tune a couple of rounds ago that was really good, but for me, they just don't work. This song really isn't that bad, but the competition has increased in this round.
