Not sure where this goes. I was going to put it in the fogey thread, but it isn't strictly a fogey issue. I took a tumble on my side the other day at work and believe I busted a rib. Haven't got an x-ray but did some reading, talked to my mom the nurse, and talked to a co-worker who had a similar experience. Guess there isn't much to do but endure the weeks long healing process. Will be fine if I don't catch a mean cold as coughing and sneezing are the two most painful things right not.

Sounds like rib. Or could be rib cartridge? I've done those a couple of times and that's painful like a mofo.

No doubt. My youngest caught RSV. She is doing alright but coughing like a beast. If I get that and start coughing to that degree, I better make sure my will is updated.

I had never heard of RSV until I recently saw a local news story saying the main children's hospital in the area is running over capacity due to the number of RSV cases, and then a buddy who works there vouched for that. With my kid anyway is just sounds and acts like a bad flu bug, but if you see your kid having a hard time breathing, you are on the way to the hospital right away.

I don't have kids but I've heard of RSV through my parent/doctor friends. I read it's pretty bad this year too. I also read they are pretty close to having a vaccine ready for moms before they give birth to protect the child. Interesting, but it's not something I'm really educated in. Hope all the kids can recover quickly.

I should add that when my 5 year old (she was 4 at the time) had Covid this summer, it knocked her on her ass with a high fever, but after 3 days she was essentially good as new. This RSV has been lingering since Sunday afternoon, and she is just now showing signs of coming out the other side. The fever isn't as bad, but the coughing, pink eye, and fatigue are hitting her hard.

It's a respiratory virus. It's not new, it is just one of those things that mostly affects kids, and previously if it required a clinic visit, parents were told "your kid has a bug, give them plenty of rest and fluids and they'll get better in a couple days." Since it is affecting kids more strongly now and putting many in the hospital, after being kept away from others due to Covid, it is becoming news and people are hearing the term for the first time.
