I'm going out for a walk in a bit. As much as I generally will not have a problem sitting on my ass and watching TV while I work for the next few weeks, I am itching to get some exercise/fresh air/a change of scenery. I also typically listen to music mostly during my commute to/from work so it feels weird to basically not have listened to music all week. Will also aim to get an hour of guitar in and give the basement a good cleaning.

I've been going on daily walks too, usually I get a good bit walking in with my commute to work and my body feels terrible without it.

Yeah, I normally walk about a mile each from the train station to the office, and a mile back to the train station at night. I also usually walk about a mile and a half on my lunch break (weather permitting). I've been supremely lazy this first week of working from home though, typically sleeping right until I need to be up to log on for work. My goal is to get myself on a routine starting Monday of waking up at 7am and getting a good long walk in before work.

What's crazy is my ipod classic still works and holds a charge to this day, if only I could get bluetooth support for that thing.

I hated using icloud/itunes when I had it.

Another earthquake. Only 4.1 this time but sure makes me uneasy.

Alright mofos, I'm back!  Was dealing with a lot of shit for a while, then this whole apocalypse business.  But here I sit, dicking around on DTF, drinking scotch (Highland Park 12) and listening to some early Regina Spektor.

What'd I miss?

Not much, job ok? Staying safe?

We've been on wfh a couple of weeks, we had a positive case at work a couple of weeks ago.  I wasn't directly exposed, but spent a lot of time in a small space with someone who was.  But, she's good, so I'm in the clear. As to other job stuff, see the interviewing thread...

We're staying safe as far as we can tell.  Our part of NJ is becoming a hot zone as we have lots of folks who commute to the city, but everyone seems to be taking things seriously.  Most importantly, we seriously stocked up at the liquor store!

Can you work remote, or do they need you to be onsite for dealing with IT infrastructure?

Ah so you didn't get cut, I thought you were fearing that a bit ago.  That's good to hear.  And yup, I'm going to work.  Got a letter from homeland security today saying I'm allowed and needed to be out to get to work.  I live and work alone though, so for me, it's hardly breaking the idea of social distancing.  No one else showed up to my building the last few days.

I wouldn't say I'm "fearing" getting laid off...I'm actively rooting for it and have been angling for it for months!  Between severance and stocks vesting instantly (which I may want to hold on to until things have recovered a bit), I'll walk out the door with about two years' pay, and in a great position to get a new job with a salary that's at least 25% more than I'm making now.

I'm glad things are staying stable for you.  And I'm guessing you stocked up on your preferred vodka before word came down that liquor stores were still essential?

Hello nerds.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Got so much done yesterday and today at work, now pending a delivery that doesn't seem to want to show up so I get to WFH until it does it seems which may be just for tomorrow, but I'll take it.  I don't mind this go into work for a little bit to get the critical shit done because I use the couple hours at home to work out and shower while on the clock.  However, I can't get any OT so there goes my "fun funds" but there's little to no fun to be had at this time anyway so I guess it works out.

I think I'm fully converted on working from home. I've been eating healthier, getting more exercise, getting more work done, and am way less exhausted due to not having to commute. It's going to be a bitch going back to work.

My brother's birthday was yesterday and last weekend we had to cancel plans to celebrate due to all this virus stuff, but we decided to do a video chat with my parents in Florida and my siblings all home.  It was a mess but still pretty cool to see us all make it happen and get to see everyone all at home.  My nieces who I've been babysitting on Saturdays (not lately) look to have grown a bit, just so crazy the world we are living in today and yet we are making it work to the best we can.

So... I think my unemployment claim was approved... But I need to call them tomorrow to verify some things. I think I messed up when I filed, as I should be able to go a good month at least without having to certify that I'm looking for work, because I do have a job waiting for me once the lockdown is lifted in CA. I received a message stating I need to make sure to certify.

I may be going back to work (severely part time) in a few weeks, as apparently my manager feels like shit for laying me off and wants to have help with some shipping stuff (from home--well my friend's home... On the other side of our driveway lol).

I'm trying to stay positive about everything. It's hard. Not just financial stuff, but just the whole worldwide situation.

Due to the quarantine, my granddaughter's proms were cancelled...their new dresses were going to go to waist. So my son-in-law got an idea and asked to borrow my tux. This morning we got a batch of photos from my daughter showing the surprise home prom they threw for their daughters.

I love my family. They are so much fun!

Thank you, guys. Apparently, a local news station caught wind of this and interviewed my son-in-law this after noon. The story will appear on the news tomorrow.

A loving family shows it through generations Gregg. You should be proud if them.

I guess I could claim pride, if I had anything to do with the outcome, Joe. It's all on them, of course, they're awesome in spite of the old man.
