Had my appointment today. Wasn't in the waiting room too long. It did start with him asking " what are your symptoms" and me going  :sadpanda: ........... errr.... But then he took over and we actually

talked for 45 mins! I've got another appointment in 2 weeks and he was like "we'll get to the bottom of this.  :)" Not just - read this pamphlet bye..  ::)

We even talked about Metallica  .

I've got some anti-depressants - just to see if they help at all. If not we can try something else. I already said I tried CBT in 2014 and it wasn't for me.

Everything everyone else said, but also, this is not a one-and-done thing, it's a PROCESS. There will be breakthroughs, and there will be setbacks.  There will be new things uncovered, and old things put to bed.   You might even be surprised - as I was - that things you thought and held dear were not what you thought (for me, I've always told people I LOVE change, and that I was far from a control freak, and the reality is, if not 180 degrees, then at least meaningfully different).   It's SCARY sometimes.

Feel free to shoot me any questions you may have, but I'm glad you're starting the process on your terms and I hope your terms allow for natural growth, even when it's painful, uncomfortable, and makes you want to punch Stadler.

Kowtow....

Good to hear your taking the initiative to talk to someone. And you have my support for it. The first step is always the biggest hurdle. Keeping consistent with these sessions will also be beneficial.

Seems like you have a great therapist, whom is willing and showing that he actually wants to work with you and help you get to the bottom of why you're there in his chair.

It takes time, and patience, but it is worth it in the end. Just don't give up. And also, let it all flow.

Kboy... That's HUGE!  I'm stoked for you!

Sorry I haven't been around much everyone. Depression and all that.

Anyways... I may be meeting my new found sister NEXT WEEKEND! She is going to be in town for a wedding... And wants to meet up. I'm stoked... But anxiety is also hitting me hard. I want to meet her (and my adorable 10 yr old niece) but didn't expect it to happen this quickly.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. So i'm on Anti DPs now. I'll let you know how I get on.  :corn

It'll take a bit to feel the affects, but if they work, you'll totally feel it. I still haven't found a therapist (because Procrastination), but the meds my Doctor put me on really do make a difference. I've talked about it before (in this thread  and/or the Depression thread)... they really have helped me get out of the house and do things I'd NEVER do before. Like hiking solo. It's also nice to like... enjoy things more than I used to.

First day back at the office hybrid. This week I am in the office three days this week (tomorrow and Thursday are a virtual conference in addition to the days) and Tuesdays and Thursdays for the foreseeable after that. So MWF from home, T/Th in office. It's a start.

How you dealing with it?  I never had to deal with it because we were "essential."  I feel like I could use a month off.

I had my first in person session last night in over a year. It was.........awesome! Despite it being in a new office that is literally just 2 chairs and a tiny corner table under florescent lights, it was just so cool to actually do therapy in person. I really felt back in my element and realized how little I like teletherapy.

That's how much most have missed person to person communication.  It's the intimacy of a conversation face to face that's missed.

I swear I feel like I'm the only one dreading going back to work. I like my co-workers, they are genuinely nice people that I enjoy being around but they aren't my friends, they are my colleagues and I don't think face to face communication will improve our relationship in any significant way. Not to mention all the other issues that come with going back to work, like paying for parking, getting dressed, commuting etc. etc.

I'm trying to not complain, I realize it's as first world problem as it gets :lol

Hardest part is just the new routine, missing my family with whom I've spent the entirety of every day for the past 16 months. As for being back in the office, since most everyone here is vaccinated and the environment is not at all what anyone would call crowded, it's returned very much to second nature. Like I said, the biggest disruption is different routines, timing, being out of the house and not available all the time, etc. It's good to see my coworkers.

I'm fighting if my 10 minute drive is better than my old 45 minute drive.  That 45 minute drive was a good way to decompress.  Listen to music, sports talk.  Drink a coffee.  I actually miss that.

No lie!  I'm probably staying in my house for work now, and there's no break.   My step son is in camp, about 30 min. away and I've been volunteering to get him for that little reprieve.   :)

Well, since my role is global in nature, the people I regularly interact with are in Ottawa (boss), Austin, London, Munich, Brussels, Dallas, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Saint John, Houston, San Mateo ....  No office anywhere near me that I'll be going to anytime soon.  Probably won't be until 2022 that I'll be able to travel.

I do like the decompression of the commute (though at times it does get taxing, especially if the weather is shit or people are more asshole-ish than usual), but there's also something to be said for being able to talk to my kids and wife at any moment for anything to get that little decompression. It's a totally different thing, though. Working at home is convenient and comfortable, but makes it more difficult to separate the work from the home.

I'd be willing to take a $10K pay cut it if meant never having to a commute ever again. I'm not comprehending any of this support in favor of a commute.

Well, I don't have to drive through Hartford like you did Brian.  Not as congested.  Only time i saw traffic was the beach traffic on a summer day.

I don't mind the commute, but I can see it being a lot more enjoyable if I had a family back home and that time driving was my only quiet alone time.  A lot of my friends who are Dads find that to be a reason to enjoy the commute.

My biggest issue with commuting is not only dealing with traffic, but the high cost of the tolls in NJ.  Luckily my job pays my tolls (some weird perk I have which gets me like $250-300 cash back a month) so it's hard to complain and since covid traffic hasn't been bad or completely non existent (it's almost back to where it used to be, but that almost makes it just not bad enough to complain).

For me, the commute becomes a physical divide between my work day and my home night. When you live and work in the same environment, sometimes it is difficult to switch that off in your mind. Having that physical and temporal separation makes it easier to disconnect from work at night.

For me personally, it has absolutely nothing to do with separation from family. I'd be around them 24/7 as I have been for the past year and a half all the time if I could.

The commute does not bother me, but I am only 10-12 minutes from work, so I suspect I might feel like some of you if I had to do the 30-60 minute one (both ways) to and from work every day.  I have said for years that I don't know how people do that. Feels like you have so little time left in your day if you are working an 8-hour shift with a lunch break and that kind of commute.

Either way, I greatly prefer working at the office.  Not only because I like the human interaction of seeing and chatting with co-workers, but I just feel more productive when I have to shower, get dressed and drive work rather than rolling out of bed and turning on the computer and getting right to it.  For me and my personality, working at the office is just the preference.

I thought that back when I was working for barely above minimum wage. There is zero about commuting I enjoy or find redeeming, other than having a job to go to.

The next two days are a digital conference that have a few sessions I'm attending, which at the moment is a bit of a blessing since my schedule is light. But the catered food is not conscious of my healthier diet I've been following (no theme, just healthy) so I'm glad I at least thought ahead to bring some hard-boiled eggs with me. Breakfast is nothing but coffee and doughnuts (definitely want, definitely not having; the doughnuts; coffee is fair game). Lunch is supposed to be sandwiches, salad, and pasta salad, so I should be good there. Easy enough to make healthy choices from that and limit my intake. Old me would have probably eaten two doughnuts at least and then multiple sandwiches and seconds of salads. These next two days will be true temptation challenges but we'll see how I do.

I'm still not working again yet, but I am one of the people who enjoyed the solitude if a commute. When I was working crazy hours in Los Angeles at different sites, my commutes were 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on location and time of day. That's a lot of time to unwind / wake up and listen to what I want at the volume I want, whether it be Podcasts or music. Also a good time to call and talk to my mom.

These days, I go out once a week or so for a few hours just driving around to get away.

There are some great roads to drive around me so I plot these routes that take into and around the surrounding counties that are just fun to drive. Taking the kids with me is fun, too. Fun conversations, sights, and just some time clearing our heads. This past Sunday I took my son on a 30-mile jaunt through two other counties and had a blast.
