Giving the newest Soilwork a spin finally. First moments are promising.

I should check them out given my recent love for Bjorn in The Night Flight Orchestra

As with many from the melodeath genre, their earlier stuff was more thrash-based and they increased melody and layers as they grew, causing a lot of original fans to lose some interest. I won't call all their work brilliant (my favorites remain some of their older work) but they have stayed pretty true to their own sound and it's almost always enjoyable to me. I always used to prefer In Flames to Soilwork, but as IF has continued I've lost a lot of interest in their new material (Stromblad's departure really hurt their songwriting, in my opinion), while Soilwork's newer stuff still grabs me.

If you haven't, check out his work with Disarmonia Mundi and Terror 2000.

Thanks guys.

As of Feb 17 I'll officially be employed in the world of RV insurance :lol

Looking forward to hear about how you flameout when resigning from the current place.

 :corn

I'm probably going to give my notice on Fri. I had a long conversation with one of the owners on Monday regarding the account manager. All of the issues I've seen and have heard from others (including what could be construed as Sexual Harassment) and also made it clear that she is part of the reason I'm looking to leave, and that there are several great employees (supervisors or future supervisor material) that are planning on jumping ship soon due to her. It wasn't a bitch fest, but a calm respectful conversation. Apparently they've heard bits and peices, but only out of anger as they quit and cussed and yelled and whatnot. I'm the first person to come to them in the way I did. I told them it's likely that they were afraid of retaliation from her, and I personally was not afraid of her, especially now.

They are supposed to look into it, and even bring in some employees and get some feedback. He totally said he respected the honesty and the fact that I'm looking, and just asked for a 2 week notice.

Does that mean they'll drop me a week into the notice? Possibly. We'll see.
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

I thought there was a new album that I didn't know about there for a second.  :lol  It's not as good as TRM, but it's very very enjoyable.

Hey, I'm only a year behind. (It's been quite a year for me, I'm not caught up on anything musical.) I quite enjoyed it. The band itself, in terms of lineup, has changed so much over the years, I'm glad they are still able to retain a sound that is their own. Helps when Bjorn is the main songwriter, but still.

The old era is absolute classic and one of my favs, but this new era and stable lineup is something to be proud of.  They are going great.  Just hope TNFO and Soilwork don't start sounding too similar which I'm afraid of and seeing small glimpses of.

Oh boy.. I got home at 11am. Wound down and was laying down almost asleep by noon.. 1205pm my phone starts blowing... The account manager asking if I'll come in on my 2 days off as well as wanting to change my schedule on Saturday. At first glance it looks like I'd get a day of OT (I took Tues off). Nope. Because she adjusted a shift on Sunday morning (first day of the pay period) and extended it so it started on Saturday (thus putting the shift during the prior week)..

There's no way in hell I'm letting her do that. I just woke up... And will respond with a polite no. I am waiting for Fri to give my notice, but if I get flak, I'll give it now. Fuck it.

...

Responded that I could help with one of these days. Was told that doesn't work for them. Apparently it's all or nothing.

Just counting down the days!

I think that's one of the potential hiccups with guys who keep doing side projects. Each project they take on is obviously some semblance of where they are creatively, and I would think it would be tremendously difficult to completely isolate every aspect of their style at any given time. There seems to always be a possibility of spillover of style from one project to the other; I think it's likely inevitable. The challenge is keeping each one in its own compartment, like you said, to keep each thing semi-unique.

Well something needs to happen. I've been in a work limbo for 2 days and I'm damn near comatose. Every project is either in review, in the clients' hands, in proofreading, or pending kickoff. No one is riding my back for anything but FUCK the day goes slow when there's nothing to do.

Want to switch?  It seems I'm the opposite as my projects just keep adding up and the timelines keep getting tighter.

Having said that, I do hate when it's so slow that time just drags.

I'll be busy soon enough, it was just a perfect storm of deadlines and projects that I hit on the first shot. When there aren't many revisions, projects reach completion faster than anticipated and suddenly the brakes hit hard.

I'm off until 145a AM Saturday.

But I do plan on sending my notice in tomorrow... So stay tuned.

I'm also not on the the schedule after Saturday. I think it's because they expected me to take the offer they gave me about taking a pay cut and working a site they just got an opening at. Oh I'll work it... But only for the next 2 weeks while they find someone :lol

They also lost like 2 more employees other the last week, not including me, and I haven't been flexible and taking shifts since she worked my schedule out to take away potential OT.

When giving notice, please consider an approach that would be at home here:

Just sent it. I'm offering to stay on to help fill shifts (as they really need the help), as my new schedule permits. I don't want to completely sever my relationship with them, as when you don't count the bitch account manager (whom I through under the bus last week to the owners), it's always been a decent one. Also, seeing as I just put a payment down on an engagement ring, and am dropping $900 on car repairs, and this new job is actually a significant pay cut to start, I could use the extra cash the next few months :lol

We have lots of "pissed off" and "work gripe" threads/posts but right now, I am feeling a work "positive" since our new work overlords give out annual company performance bonus's and it seems the company hit all three objectives, I will be getting an even larger payout than I expected on March 6th  :metal  It's not much overall, about %10 of my salary but I never got this before and I don't budget based off of receiving it so I am feeling pretty happy about the reality that I will be getting a nice check in 5 weeks plus tax season is approaching which nets me a large refund usually.  I guess I don't feel so bad about buying that Aerosmith ticket and hotel room yesterday.

Ahh. MGM just spent over a billion dollars building a casino in Springfield MA, and Aerosmith is playing 4 or 5 shows there in August.

I am literally 15 minutes from the MGM Springfield facility (my brother-in-law saw Aerosmith there a couple weeks ago...) but I'm also about 45 minutes from Mohegan Sun/Foxwoods.    The latter is light years better than the former.
