1. At Wit's End

An absolute belter of a song, quintessential Dream Theater. Harking back to days of old as well as keeping it contemporary. Heavy subject matter, amazing musicianship, loads of changes, top-notch execution. Top 5 DT song for me at this point.

2. Barstool Warrior

As soon as this song started playing for the very first time, the thought running through my head was "Where have you guys been all this time?". Right off IaW pages, it's a musical euphoria.

3. S2N

Although I wasn't sure whether to include this one or Room 137, I opted for S2N for similar reasons as the two above. Plus intro and outro are among band's tastiest ever.

S2N - Has everything practically I would want in a DT song
BW - I don't know exactly what you call this type of music, but I love how they just go full tilt THIS SONG IS EMOTIONAL and it works
Room 137 - Evil sounding guitar riffs and psychedelia? Yes please.
Take a chance you may die
Over and over again

1. Barstool Warrior
2. Room 137
3. Viper King

Those are actually the three songs I wasn't expecting much, but they really surprised me in a positive way.

My higher expectations were on the two long epics and S2N. I really enjoyed At Wit's End and S2N, but Pale Blue Dot hasn't hit me yet.

3. Out of Reach

Looks like I'm the only one so far who's voted Out of Reach in their top 3. Kind of surprising. I think it's an excellent ballad.

1. At Wit's End (instant classic, perfect song)
2. Pale Blue Dot (required multiple listenings to properly get it, but I'm completely in love)
3. Barstool Warrior (likewise, amazing song)

1. Paralyzed: the most simple, but the only perfect one!
2. S2N: super groovy and proggy, a pleasant LTE touch. Just the melodies are not so cool
3. At Wit's End: some goosebumps moments, and some beautiful sections. The instrumental part (the middle section) is probably the worst in the album, sounds a lot like Endless Sacrifice and I really don't like it. Pity.

1. Pale Blue Dot
2. Untethered Angel
3. At Wit's End

Poor old Untethered Angel, I seem to be the first vote for it. :( Feels to me like the perfect first single type song, with so many cool little sections and some of my favourite vocal melodies on the album. On the other end of the scale for me is Barstool Warrior - everyone else seems to love it, but I can't get it to click yet.

Those top 3 may swap places with each other eventually, but I don't think any other tracks will move above any of them, they're my clear favourites. I still need a bit more time to rank the rest of the songs amongst each other though.

1. Pale Blue Dot. Funny thing about this one; the first several listens it was way down the list, possibly even my least favourite on the album. I couldn't make head nor tail of it, it sounded like the Dance of Eternity with vocals. I found it to be almost unbearably 'dense' in ideas and complexity, like 15 minutes' worth of ideas had been squashed into 8 minutes. But having listened to it many more times (each one revealing more of the structure and the melodic material they're working with), I've come to adore it. It's powerful and moving, and the instrumental section is as awe-inspiring as the image and the words (!) that inspired the song.

2. At Wit's End. Begins like Liquid Tension Experiment (Universal Mind), ends like only JP can end a song.

3. Barstool Warrior. The most 'classic' DT song on the album. Never a dull moment, one great idea after the next.

On the whole I love the album. Every song has its own feel, nothing here sounds forced or repetitive.

1, Viper King: Loved the bluesy riff. First DT song in a long long time to get stuck in my head.
2. Barstool Warrior: This track told me they had returned the I&W prog sound. Great Melody.
3. At Wits End: Classic DT epic feel. Sounds like another great JM lyric too.

This is based on songs I hadn't heard prior to release. I'd put Fall Into the Light tied with At Wit's End.

If I had to rate the album after 2 listens, I'd go  :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal :metal

I can't make up my mind (yet) so I only voted for my favourite so far; Barstool Warrior. That's the DT I fell in love with. Right when Petrucci goes off soloing and James starts his "promises made...". Right there. That's it. Bliss.

I think I'm digging Viper King the most right now, the lyrics are a bit much but that riffage is too good.

Those 3 are well out in front after my first listen - hopefully the rest will grow and bridge the gap a bit.

1. At Wit's End .....is possibly going to be one of my all time favorites.  :heart :hefdaddy
It hooked me today on about the 4th listen, in my car where it sounds sooo good. JLB wrote a song about this tricky topic that one can listen to and feel, but not be like uggh!. (I have no personal experience btw) His performance is wonderful. So many good parts and I love the middle intstrumental section when Jordan comes in. The only imperfection is that I want to hear more.

I hope the rock gods hear my wish -that this is played on the tour!

2. Paralyzed  - great rocker!

The rest have yet to sort themselves out.

Never expected Barstool Warrior, of all titles, to be the best song on the album!
