Bottom 10 DT Song Titles
« on: February 19, 2019, 04:26:32 PM »
Yep!

Light Fuse and Get Away
The Ones Who Help To Set the Sun
Space-Dye Vest
Just Let Me Breathe
Anna Lee
The Great Debate
Honor Thy Father
A Nightmare to Remember
False Awakening Suite
Enigma Machine

I left off a few from Astonishing, like Losing Faythe because in a vacuum, that's a ridiculous title, but as a track on this specific album, it isn't.

I'll have a go with my least favorite five - once again, chronologically:

Lie
You not me
Burning my soul
The Dark eternal night
This is the life

Some of these are actually good songs.  ;D

You not me- just so mehhhh...
Whispers in the wind - 0% originality
The answer lies within - do not like the sound of this
Peruvian Skies - I love Perų but this title is not evocative at all for me...probably because I think immediately of Lima's haze...:)
Beyond this life
Just let me breathe

Cannot think of any others...
Ora che ho perso la vista,ci vedo di pių

It's hard to tell what's a bad song title really. Every title fits its song perfectly. I couldn't imagine them having any other title.

Ditto.  It's not like DT has anything like "Talk Dirty to Me" or "Let's Put the X in Sex" in its catalog.

Illumination Theory
Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
Raw Dog
Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
Fall Into the Light
Act of Faythe
Surrender to Reason
Under a Glass Moon
The Ytse Jam
The Ones Who Help to Set the Sun

Honorable mention goes to most of WDaDU, The Answer Lies Within, and Breaking All Illusions. Like most of these are just confusing. What does "fall into the light" even mean? What does being under a glass moon signify? Others like Metropolis Pt. 1 and Illumination Theory just seem a little...pretentious. And then there's the clunky ones like Raw Dog and Act of Faythe.

I actually like a lot of these songs, but the song names are...eh.

What's wrong with "Ytse Jam"?  You know it's just the band's former name backwards, right?

And isn't "Raw Dog" simply "god of war" backwards and without the "of"?  TOWHTSTS is clunky, but I don't see how "Raw Dog" is.

Yeah, I'm aware of both of those facts. That doesn't stop them from not really working as song titles. "Raw Dog" doesn't really evoke any sort of feeling or mental picture that fits the music whatsoever (and the only picture it conjures for me would better fit a Sarah McLachlan song than DJENT). "Ytse" is a bit of a nonsense word even with the "it's Majesty backwards" context and doesn't exactly flow off the tongue in a way that would grab the listener's attention. The way it sounds and reads is more like two random words chosen from Jabberwocky.

I almost posted Ytse Jam, but gave it a pass as it is an instrumental, and on the debut album of a new band made up of some college kids.

And I forgot about Raw Dog because, well, I've been trying to for years.

I also never think of Metropolis as "Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper." Yikes that is clunky.

I've never been a fan of pronouns in album titles, and I like adjectives. I do like most of these songs, but the titles are stupid.

You Not Me
A Better Life
Three Days
Begin Again
Lie
The Best Of Times
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Far From Heaven
Another Day
Overture (Neal Morse ruined the word Overture for me)
