It is really great to hear them back to form after a couple of disappointing albums. I really hope The Dripping Tap is a stepping stone to more of that jam style because it's their strongest song in quite some time for me. While I do like most of their albums I've always felt a sense of them having the potential to be something better than they are, when you get these songs like The Dripping Tap or Head On/Pill it actually feels like them ascending to a higher plane.

I couldn't agree more. I listened to The Dripping Tap 6 times today  :lol

I'm going full throttle on the Gizz right now, which includes watching all the trippy music videos and trying to fathom the fucking gizzverse.

I need to see this band live! Their current tour just looks amazing, varied sets and just a great vibe. I feel this is just a great time to catch this band live. They've dropped an incredible album and are doing their first proper tour since the pandemic hit.

They are in the UK for a one off festival in the summer. I'm hoping they'll announce another show as I just NEED to see them.

So happy to see this thread! My 14  year old son came to me a couple weeks ago and said 'Dad, I found this cool band you should check out' and this is who it was. I've been listening periodically to the plethera of albums that they have and they're great! But the coolest thing is that it's my son who turned me on to them...not me him like I've done with DT/Haken etc etc.

Really fun band with neat songs....just a cool listen  :tup

My son is only 2 but I really hope I instill a passion for music in him so I can one day experience this. I can't wait to be able to start taking him to gigs/festivals.

Careful what you wish for.....what once was a relatively 'cheap' experience of going to a concert get's pretty expensive whey you start taking kids. All three of my boys LOVE to go to concerts and are musicians so things get $$$$ quick!

I'm only kidding of course.....I'll spend whatever's needed to be able to share those experiences with them....but man, lots of balcony seats the past few years  :lol

This band!

They've just announced the three new albums coming in October...

October 7th: Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava

October 12th: Laminated Denim

October 28th: Changes

These guys are like the hottest, most exciting band around right now. The sheer volume of output is incredible.

In today's age I think they are at the pinnacle of marketing and promoting themselves. The way they interact with the fanbase, the variations of media (especially vinyl), the live shows, the series of free bootlegs. They must be absolutely raking it in.

Reddit has gone off and I'm sure pre orders for the new albums will likely sell out in like 24 hours.

I think most bands could take leaf out of their book when it comes to navigating the music industry in 2022.

Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, And Lava = IDPLMAL = Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian
Maybe a Jazz record?

Also, Laminated Denim is an anagram of Made in Timeland

Just finished a listen-through of their albums recently.

Or I guess, paused it, since it will never end lol

Listened to a new single this morning, which was very good.  Ice V
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I love the band but their gimmick of putting out as much as they can is a bit of a turn off. Would definitely say they've had more misses than hits out of the last 5-6 albums or so (that's not to say the misses have been bad, they've just been average by their standard) and I was hoping Omnium Gatherum would be a sign of focusing on quality over quantity.

3 album pre-order all at once is just too much for me. I feel like by the time these albums are out and you figure out which one is the great one, that vinyl will already be sold out. Definitely curious to listen to these albums though.

The jam on the new song > the jam on The Dripping Tap

Let's not go getting too excited.

The lyrics could be straight from a Mighty Boosh song though  :lol

Pretty confident in saying the new album (name too fucking long for me to bother typing) is their best one since Infest The Rats Nest.

Yea I really don't get the hype over ITRN. The new album is pretty good after 3 listens. Ice V has grown on me a lot this last month, but I personally love Omnium Gatherum, so it'll take a lot to top that this year. We've got another two albums to come this month yet though  :lol

Anyone going to be watching the livestreams (or possibly not actually live) of the next two nights of marathon 3 hour sets at Red Rocks? Or better yet, actually lucky enough to be going?

This is a real event and I really wish I could be there.

Edit: oh shit, they've just announced European tour dates!

Slight correction: the new album is the band's 2nd best record behind Infest The Rats' Nest. They really nailed it with this one. It's cohesive, satisfyingly lengthy, and filled with their best jams ever (Quarters? Yawn. The Dripping Tap? Wouldn't even be in the top three on this album).

Ice V still slaps. Magma is groovy as hell and I love the turn into a darker, more sinister atmosphere. Lava works really well as a change of pace from the more jammy and indulgent songs, and that intro is just majestic. Finally, Iron Lung and Gilese 710 are just the two perfect songs to close off the album with - super climactic and awesome guitar layering.

The only songs I'm not totally sold on are Mycelium and Hell's Itch. Mycelium is probably the weakest song on the album, though it's not bad. Hell's Itch is more interesting but also feels like the only song that's a good bit longer than it needed to be. Weird fucking lyrics, too.

If either of the other two albums this month are as good as this I'll be shocked.

Oh hey, Laminated Denim is actually a proper rock album. I was expecting it to be another ambient / experimental electronic thing like Made In Timeland.

Damn, I might have to get this one too. :lol

Not sure what I was expecting, but maybe not to enjoy it as much as I do. After Omnium Gatherum and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava anything else is just a bonus, they are both near perfect.

Laminated Denim is great though and who knows, Changes may even be the best release this year! The boys could fucking do it.

I've seen snippets of the Red Rocks marathon shows abd been following along on reddit.

For those who didn't see, the limited edition vinyl of Laminated Denim comes with an actual denim sleeve  :lol

Managed to secure two tickets to see them in London in March. I got a buddy into the band a few months ago and now he is all about that Gizz.

Also have two other friends hoping to get tickets on Friday. My brother lives in London, and although they really aren't his jam I'm tempted to get him a ticket as well. I feel they are that good live, they'd be able to win anyone over!

I still haven't seen them live. The last US tour they came here they were playing a festival show, and then had to cancel due to covid anyways. And the US tour they just did / are on now skipped Boston entirely.

So the last of the Gizztober releases is now out, Changes...

https://open.spotify.com/album/05ag5ukffFozEnXGOeuTTD?si=u8eKr_e6T6-9TuY_zRtKyQ&utm_source=copy-link

I'm just starting up my second listen, but I'm honestly floored that the band can release three albums in a month, not to mention their other releases this year, and they are this fucking good!

After many listens to Laminated Denim and Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava I can say they are top tier King Gizzard releases. Admittedly, I have become pretty obsessed since Omnium Gatherum came out, but they just keep getting better, and I can't quite fathom how.

Too early for a ranking with Changes, but let's do all the rest...

I'm in Your Mind Fuzz
Omnium Gatherum
Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava
Nonagon Infinity
Murder of the Universe
Polygondwanaland
Laminated Denim
Fishing for Fishies
Float Along - Fill Your Lungs
Infest the Rats Nest
Paper Mâché Dream Balloon
Flying Microtonal Banana
Quarters
Butterfly 3000
Oddments
Gumboot Soup
Sketches of Brunswick East
KG
LW
Eye's Like the Sky
Made In Timeland
12 Bar Bruise
Willoughby's Beach

The list of albums is just a thing of beauty! So much good music, and I find albums are moving quite fluidly the more I listen. Paper Mâché Dream Balloon is a climber at the moment, beautiful record.

New KEXP session. I haven't watched this yet, but will be this evening. Bummed they don't play Lava though, easily my favourite from Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava.

I'm loving Changes and also really vibing to Paper Mache Dream Balloon right now. I was saying to mate earlier, that's one of the reasons I love the band so much, Because of the sheer number of albums, of varying genres, one is always hitting harder than it previously had. I've listened to all the albums and my ranking changes from week to week!

On that note, let's do another album ranking...

I'm in Your Mind Fuzz
Omnium Gatherum
Murder of the Universe
Nonagon Infinity
Paper Mâché Dream Balloon
Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava
Polygondwanaland

My updated list:

1. Murder of the Universe
2. Nonagon Infinity
3. Fishing for Fishies
4. Infest the Rats’ Nest
5. Omnium Gatherum
6. Butterfly 3000
7. I’m in Your Mind Fuzz
8. Quarters!
9. Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava
10. Paper Mâché Dream Balloon
11. Changes
12. Polygondwanaland
13. Float Along / Fill Your Lungs
14. Flying Microtonal Banana
15. Gumboot Soup
16. KG
17. LW
18. Made in Timeland
19. 12 Bar Bruise
20. Oddments
21. Sketches of Brunswick East
22. Eyes Like the Sky
23. Laminated Denim

Ice Death is fantastic. Not normally into their jammy stuff but I really like it. Definitely my favorite of the three October albums.

Laminated Denim is one of the most boring records I’ve heard from anyone. I really don’t get what people are enjoying about this one. Both songs go absolutely nowhere and take their sweet time doing it.

Changes is just ok. It remind me of Sketches but a bit more accessible to people who don’t like Jazz. Or if they did a whole album of songs like Beginner’s Luck. Not much to say about it. It doesn’t stand out to me much, but it’s enjoyable.

Nice list. I can't really argue with the majority of that.

I personally quite enjoy Laminated Denim. Either way, October was an incredible month to be a Gizz fan. My ranking seems to change from month to month as I'm trying to consistently give all their albums a fair listen.

I'm sure I'll stay at this level of obsession at least until after I see then in March  :metal

I'm split on Laminated Denim because I think Hypertension is excellent, but The Land Before Timeland is just alright.

The ticking clock gimmick is pretty neat though, especially since the tempos they chose create interesting polyrhythms with it. It's something I barely even noticed my first listen, but it's hard to ignore after you notice it.

On a huge King Gizzard kick after finding I'm In Your Mind Fuzz on vinyl and buying it. I hadn't checked out any pre-Nonagon yet, and I love that record. It's actually comparable to Nonagon Infinity in terms of quality.

That said, I've really become a huge fan since the release of K.G. and L.W.. no disrespect to Flying Microtonal Banana but I feel they've expanded a lot on those records and have become so much more proggy. I love it.

Live in Sydney and Live in Melbourne and now the new Live at Bonnaroo on Youtube are AMAZING.. so, so good.

The three new records are great, I feel Ice, Death is one of their very best records! The KEXP session is pure fire as well.
The 'Changes' album is good stuff too, especially the title track. That one's an instant classic as far as I'm concerned.

Can't do an album ranking since I really have to listen to some of those albums a bit more.

They're playing in my country in March and I was so dumb to NOT get tickets. Now it's sold out. I saw the band in 2018 at a festival, they were a great psych rock band then. But now they've become.. everything and more? It's getting nuts, really.
Not 'Down To F***', but 'Dream Theater Forums' .

Dude, I pretty much agree with everything you've said here (except on K.G. and L.W., I can't seem to click with those records personally). I was lucky enough to get tickets to see them in March, and I've ever managed to convince three of my friends to join me!

I truly believe we are witnessing something special with this band at the moment, they are the most exciting band at the moment, on every front. I love the whole bootleg culture, and how fans are crafting all their own merchandise. The vinyl output is great and they seem to interact with their fans in such a special way.

Hell yeah they are something special for sure. Their fan interaction is on another level, and musically they're incredibly adventurous and curious. The sheer volume of output is astonishing. I haven't even digested Omnium Gatherum yet (can't seem to get into much of it aside from a few tracks). But I haven't even blinked yet and there are three new super good albums which I CAN get into. It's like: Oh, you didn't like our last double album? Here's three new awesome records.

Have fun in March! I'm seeing Devin Townsend in Tilburg on March 3rd and Gizz is playing the same venue the day after. I'm still hoping to snatch tickets..

This is a cool article by the way, suggesting they might get back to heavy music: https://www.grammy.com/news/king-gizzard-and-the-lizard-wizard-ice-death-laminated-denim-changes-joey-walker-interview
