I might be able to catch the last hour of the live show. Got the link?

It's been my experience that you can also rewind the show and watch the entire thing at your leisure even after the stream has ended, as long as you don't close the window or app it's open in.

Our debut album "Eläimys" is a trip I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone into Pain of Salvation, Opeth, The Mars Volta, Magma etc.

The new album is top 5 Gizz for sure, probably top 3. I was right in that it didn't end up topping Infest The Rats Nest for me, but I admire it for being a lot more ambitious than that album. Dragon and Flamethrower are easily the best songs here. Supercell and Gila Monster are the weakest for me.

Can’t see it cracking my top 5 but I also wouldn’t rule it out. I pretty much agree with you though dude, Dragon and Flamethrower are my favourites. Kinda surprised you rank Supercell as one of the weakest as it’s probably the song that would fit on ItRN, more than any other.

So, I gave this album a third listen today. Since we're mentioning our least favorite tracks, I'd have to say mine is Converge.

But I have to say, I'm enjoying this album quite a bit. Really blown away by the drumming.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Yea it’s a really consistent album. As much as I like Dragon and Flamethrower the most, the rest of the songs aren’t really that far behind. Totally with on the drum front TAC, Cavs is really killing it on this record and his drumming really just seems to be improving all the time.

I like Converge, structurally it's all over the place (like a lot of this album) but I enjoy pretty much every section of it. Once that 7/8 riff comes in around the halfway point the song's fire.

After about 12 listens: surely one of my top 5 KG albums. It’s balls to the wall prog metal / thrash / Tool (but killing that shit) / Meshuggah worship / KG psych.

I love the narrative structure. Reading along with the lyrics had me appreciate how the story evolved from track to track and it’s indeed apocalyptic as f.

My favorite tracks are Motor Spirit, Witchcraft, Dragon and Flamethrower. Gila Monster made a lot more impact in context.

I think they’ve hit a new high in intensity and precision. And now I can’t wait to hear more where that psybient outro of Flamethrower came from. KG goes Shpongle? Damn.

And don’t forget this is same band that already put out amazing records in any genre, and have mindblowing live shows to boot. Every show is different, songs get mashed up together.

I’m 36 and since discovering Metallica when I was 8, Dream Theater when I was 14, Porcupine Tree when I was 17, Gojira when I was 24, this band is the first time since I’ve felt that impressed and awestruck. Seeing them live twice has been a blessing and I can’t wait to see them again. And I’m seeing Riverside and Porcupine Tree together at a festival in a few weeks. Man, life is good sometimes.

I agree about them being the sort of rare band that comes along and blows you away, when you think you’ve heard it all. I can’t think of a single band that comes close to what these guys are doing. I don’t just mean with their studio output, but their whole package. It’s so unique and unashamedly them.

The latest hasn’t properly kicked my ass yet but I’ve yet to do a proper dedicated listen with the lyrics in front of me, so I need to get on that.

I think I may have already shared this set of YouTube videos, exploring the Gizzverse, and how certain albums and songs link together to tell a larger story through the bands music. These are basically essential viewing for any fan of the band, especially the first 3 episodes. The first three episodes tie together the albums Nonagon Infinity, Murder of the Universe and Polygonwanaland. This shit is kinda mind blowing and only increases my love and respect for the band.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3G8xbqc3lc2Qn3w1Qq3Nh5R575-do1v2

It also gives props and respect to Jason Galea (who has basically done every piece of visual media the band has ever produced, including album covers, music videos, tour posters, T-shirts etc). Jason truly is like the unsung 7th member of the band and really helps put the bands vision into multiple visual pieces of art. Just incredibly talented.

Get on it boys, and we can discuss  :corn

All the King Gizzard bootlegs are now up on Spotify, but under ‘bootleg gizzard’ as the artist. These are apparently legit and the band are behind it.

I still can’t get into Murder of the Universe. The narration is just too much.

Loving all those recent Red Rocks ‘23, Caverns, Salt Shed videos. More and more starts to show up on youtube. Really digging the Gaia / Motor Spirit combo.

I had a Nugs trial to watch the RR23 live streams, thinking that I would get access to those. Turns out you have to ‘purchase’ those for another 30 bucks each. Was on the fence to rent one, and now they’re gone. Oh well.

Meanwhile, my Needlejuice pressed Bonnaroo ‘22 found its way to my home, and the Needlejuice pressing of Red Rocks 2022 has been delayed for the third time to September.

Oh man, I love Murder of the Universe BECAUSE of the narration!

I haven’t watched many videos from their latest US tour, but I watched many from last years tour. I should probably get on that. I contemplated the Nugs thing but it just seems a bit of a rip off and I’d be unlikely to find the time to watch all the shows on there.

The Needlejuice Bonnaroo, is that the buzzsaw vinyl? That looks awesome. You went for the full Red Rocks vinyl set? How many records in that set?  :lol

Maybe I have to give MotU some quality time. It’s really not something to listening to in parts I think.

Yeah the 2023 live vids are amazing, get on that for sure. I got this version of Bonnaroo: https://www.hhv.de/shop/en/item/king-gizzard-and-the-lizard-wizard-live-at-bonnaroo-22-multi-color-vinyl-edition-939896

The RR22 set is this one, 12LP set: https://www.hhv.de/shop/en/item/king-gizzard-and-the-lizard-wizard-live-at-red-rocks-22-983499

I was joking around to my girlfriend via text that I needed to get my hands on some money to get this set, I wasn’t sure if I should get it. She replied back with a screenshot of the order confirmation.  :lol

Yeah that’s still my favorite rendition of Magenta Mountain.

I’m building a youtube playlist of awesome live Gizz material. The three Red Rocks 2023 shows are also in there: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgMmVLvFFDADaMH86CRszMmvxYRCDj889

Their set at Lowlands Festival a few days ago was captured and is totally amazing. Last two tracks feature the saxophone guy from Viagra Boys: https://youtu.be/y8Wawh9X7GM

Are K.G. and L.W. really some of their worst albums? Like I agree they're pretty mid, but they're also very inoffensive. Just kinda by the numbers for them. They definitely have weaker stuff in my opinion.

good question but kind of a tough one to answer. for me, the bottom of the ranking doesn't mean it's a bad album, it just means i prefer the other ones more. i would say they don't really have a "bad" album

that being said if something is being described as "mid, but inoffensive" i don't think we disagree all that much about where the records belongs on their ranking  :metal

I'm not a huge fan of any of their microtonal albums.

LW in particular is very uneven. The first half up to Supreme Ascendancy is great, but it really falls off after that. Static Electricity and East West Link are pretty dull, Ataraxia would be better if you could actually understand what Joey is saying, See Me is unremarkable, and KGLW (Outro) is too plodding for me to enjoy it.

I'm sure I've posted my rankings before, but here they are again.

1. Murder of the Universe
2. PetroDragonic Apocalypse
3. Nonagon Infinity
4. Fishing for Fishies
5. Infest the Rats’ Nest
6. Omnium Gatherum
7. Butterfly 3000
8. I’m in Your Mind Fuzz

14. Float Along / Fill Your Lungs
15. Flying Microtonal Banana
16. Gumboot Soup
17. KG
18. LW
19. Made in Timeland

Mostly agree with this, except I don't like If Not Now Then When, and Static Electricity might be the best song on the album for me. I love the evil atmosphere there.

Nice to have someone else fighting the good fight. As all King Gizzy rankings there are some placements here I totally agree with (KG and LW ranking low) and some that baffle me (Paper Mache, Murder, Nonagon and Omnium BELOW 12 Bar and Eyes?!).

Are K.G. and L.W. really some of their worst albums? Like I agree they're pretty mid, but they're also very inoffensive. Just kinda by the numbers for them. They definitely have weaker stuff in my opinion.

Yea I rate them pretty low. I’m not too into the microtonal stuff apparently as I don’t rate Flying Microtonal Banana particularly high either. I actually nearly wrote the band off when KG and LW came out, as a fairly new fan at that point I was so underwhelmed. Luckily The Dripping Tap reignited my passion.

I'm not a huge fan of any of their microtonal albums.

LW in particular is very uneven. The first half up to Supreme Ascendancy is great, but it really falls off after that. 21. Oddments
22. Sketches of Brunswick East
23. Eyes Like the Sky
24. Laminated Denim

This list I can pretty much get on board with, and it’s not too dissimilar to my ranking. Although Laminated Denim ranked last? Hypertension is too good for it to sit at the bottom spot.

PetroDragonic Apocalypse
Changes
L.W.
Ice Death
Butterfly 3K
K.G.
Fishing For Fishies
Nonagon Infinity
Polygondwanaland
Omnium Gatherum

Gumboot Soup
Murder of the Universe

These are all fantastic to good. I left out everything before Nonagon Infinity because I have to give those more listens. Sketches I also have to check out more.

Ranking Murder of the Universe last is unforgivable! Vomitcore at it’s finest!

Anyway, here is my current ranking, subject to change at any point…

2.  I’m in Your Mind Fuzz
3. Murder of the Universe

Yeah twosuitluke like I said, I have to invest more time in Murder of the Universe. The constant narration puts me off for some reason. Maybe I have to listen to it while reading along to the lyrics or something.

I see a lot of low rankings for K.G. (and L.W. which is usually rated higher). Those albums actually solidified my fandom. Then when Omnium Gatherum came out, I was initially disappointed. However in hindsight OG was a very important record. It’s almost as if they became a different band with/after that album. Like they became even more free in their approach.

I totally get it dude. I know that you are not the only one on DTF that is put off by the narration. I just love the whole thing though. It’s one of the things l love about King Gizzard’s catalogue and fanbase. No two fans like the same albums, and album rankings are so wildly varied.

Nice to have someone else fighting the good fight. As all King Gizzy rankings there are some placements here I totally agree with (KG and LW ranking low) and some that baffle me (Paper Mache, Murder, Nonagon and Omnium BELOW 12 Bar and Eyes?!).

i think their earlier garage albums rule! and the concept of Eyes is so good to me, it's like a movie score

Yea I can appreciate them for sure, but Murder of the Universe, Nonagon Infinity and Omnium Gatherum are on a whole different level to me personally. If there’s one thing I can be sure of with King Gizzy, it is that my album rankings will always change. There was a time I ranked Paper Mache Dream Balloon and Butterfly 3000 really low, which feels wild to me now as I love them.

There's so many albums I don't want to even bother with a ranking. :lol But these are my top 5:

Rats' Nest
Ice, Death, Planets, etc.
PetroDragonic Apocalypse
Nonagon Infinity

just gotta shout out my total obsession with king gizzard and the lizard wizard. their music is seriously mind-blowing and takes me on wild trips every time. the way they blend genres, switch up styles, and just keep the vibe fresh is pure magic. :hat

from the psychedelia to the garage rock to the experimental jams, it's like they're a whole universe of sound. and can we talk about their prolific creativity? albums on albums, each with its own unique flavor. seriously, if you haven't dived into their discography yet, you're missing out big time. so much respect for these aussie maestros. 🦎🤘

hey, quick question: does anyone know the story behind the name "king gizzard and the lizard wizard"? i'm super curious, but i've been a bit lazy to check wikipedia or anything

my understanding is they wanted a name that sounded as ridiculous as all their ideas and concepts. not sure if this is true but it's kinda the lore in the gizzdom. hope this helps!!  :metal

Yea, I think I read something similar somewhere. I’m pretty sure that Sea of Trees (also song on 12 Bar Bruise) was a name of one of the many bands that proceeded, and ultimately led to, King Gizzard.

thanks, thehoveringsojourn808! that's actually a pretty cool way to approach naming the band. i guess it fits perfectly with their eclectic and out-there style. appreciate the info, and keep on rocking with the falling cascades of gizz! :metal

Let’s go, two new King Gizzard albums/bootlegs, available on Bandcamp.

Live in Chicago’23 and Demos Vol. 5 & 6

For those who don’t know, the bootlegs are all officially on Spotify as well now, but under the artist ‘bootleg gizzard’…

New bootlegs aren’t on Spotify yet but should be soon.

Looks like it’s all 3 nights! I heard the Shanghai jam was pretty dope. Definitely gonna hit up these boots today  :metal

Looking forward to all the live versions of the Gizztober songs, particularly Hypertension!
