Jordan Rudess - Wired for Madness to be released april 19, 2019
« on: February 12, 2019, 08:06:08 AM »
Dream Theater Keyboard Virtuoso Jordan Rudess To Release New Solo Album
'Wired For Madness'

To be released on 19 April 2019 via
Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group

Featuring; Marco Minnemann, James LaBrie, Vinnie Moore, Guthrie Govan, Joe Bonamassa &  John Petrucci.

Quote
‘Wired for Madness’ bursts and flows forth with all of the drama, technique and melodicism that have become his musical hallmarks, the album also features the keyboard wizard handling many of the vocals. Renowned guests include drummer Marco Minnemann, Dream Theater frontman James LaBrie, guitarists Vinnie Moore, Guthrie Govan, Joe Bonamassa and John Petrucci. There are appearances by notable players including drummers Rod Morgenstein and Elijah Wood among others.

He dispels any notion that it’s a concept album. “It is not a concept album, however the title track, does have a story that I was envisioning while writing it. The idea was about a guy who wanted to go about a transformational process involving becoming partially computerized and robotic. His functionality as a human was noticeably diminishing and he takes advantage of a modern medical procedure to “upgrade ‘and extend his physical and mental capabilities. Through the course (or curse) of this process he becomes more and more separated from the outside “normal” world, allowing the computer front end to take over much of his day to day tasks and decisions.  This leaves his mind free to travel between madness and spiritual enlightenment. After an angel visited him, the listener is left wondering whether he is experiencing true enlightenment or if he is moving out of the physical world to the next dimension.”

““There’s even some blues!” Says Rudess, “’Just Can’t Win’ is a dirty blues song! The Dream Theater guys call me Blues Man because, at 8AM, after sleeping on the tour bus, I sound like a reincarnation of an old blues man soul. I called in Joe Bonamassa and a full brass section to help make this song really happen. For my prog fans, this is Jordan Rudess in an alternate universe!”

Jordan Rudess has been the full-time keyboardist with Dream Theater, since the recording of 1999’s ‘Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory’.  Beyond Dream Theater, he has released a number of acclaimed solo works and has also blazed a trail in helping to evolve the art and science of keyboard controllers. He created the successful App development company Wizdom Music, which has developed award-winning apps including; MorphWiz, which won the first ever Billboard award for Best Music Creation App. Wizdom Music has also built apps for Intel, Microsoft and RIM.

Rudess just keeps absorbing and processing what happens around him into new music and ideas. “I live to be creative. Give me my space and freedom to do my music and I’ll be like an antenna to the thoughts and feelings around me. Of course I get inspired by other music I hear. Could be anything from wild Electronica, like Richard Devine or Aphex Twin to classical music like a beautiful Chopin Nocturne.”

It all started with a curious mind and a furious set of little hands. He has gone to change the world of music in many wondrous ways, and his latest solo release is the next dynamic chapter in a book that’s still being written.

2. Wired for Madness - Part 2

I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

I love this song (or part of a song), I really like his voice. This album should be amazing with all those guests.

IIRC, Marco Minnemann said he tracked drums for a 30 min epic on this album :metal
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

I remember seeing a video of him wearing a headset and singing while playing keyboards. It was really awkward because he kept staring right at the camera.

Anyway, song was ok. I'll definitely pick it up but I've never really been into his solo stuff.

Well, that was interesting.  The first half sounded like some weird broody stuff and then the second half transitioned into some pretty weird gadgets and gizmos sounding stuff.  I like it!  Seemed like the fastest 2:50 song I have ever heard.  It flew by so fast, I'm like, "I want to hear more!"  Thankfully, this is only Part 1.3 so there's going to be more.

His voice sounds good and it's a really cool track!  I could never understand why JR doesn't have a microphone in the live DT setting, I'm sure he could do back-up just fine and complement JLB'S voice. That's exactly what DT needs for live settings.

Cool track! Maybe the parts 1 and 2 are the 30 min track that Marco Minnemann was refering to.

,
That and JP also doing backing vocals for real (I mean, to be heard clearly in the shows), no pre-recorded tracks and no metronome! I would trade a more simplified show in terms of visuals for all of that, easily. I wish DT could pull it off, in the present "back to the roots" vibe of the band.

Jordan said it’s Rod Morgenstein on the preview track we got, not Marco.

Interesting... so the 30 minute song is one of the other 6 of the album? Maybe Marco just didn’t record all the song. Let’s see.

OMG this sounds awesome! The preview track is full prog Rudess glory! His voice is not perfect fit for me and I can't stop imagining how cool it would be if James was singing :) But awesome that James actually is singing on this album!

This showed up on Saturday although I haven't cracked it open yet. Was hoping to get to it this weekend, but it never happened.

Turns out he signed the post card and not the CD case. Great art though, maybe I'll get it framed or something.

It's out today! Sounds great, although I kinda hate 'Just Can't Win'.

Also, anyone know who does the female vocal parts on Wired for Madness Part 2? I'm kinda getting Sally Oldfield vibes but I doubt it's her.

I found this:

On vocals I had Marjana Semkina, who is the wonderful singer from the group I Am The Morning, a prog band out of Russia

I'm really digging Jordan's vocals. He often sounds quite a bit like Greg Lake.

Bonamassa's guest spot is my favorite so far. But, I'm probably more of a blues fan than most in these parts so that's not terribly surprising.
