First Impressions:

With each of your EPs I’m always worried going in I’ll somehow end up disappointed and each time by the end of the first listen I’m always pretty impressed and I don’t know why I’m even worrying anymore at this point.

Pretty much every song doesn’t feel like it has any “twist” or “unique element” to it, it’s just trying to be good in a standard way.

I feel like this one is going to be a grower purely for it cohesiveness alone, and that most of the songs in their own right don’t feel particularly immediate but could open up on relistens.

So this is, like, an entire EP full of a kind of music I’ve specifically said I’m never too into, and surprise! I’m not too into any of it.

Starts strong, ends strong, I wouldn’t say anything is “weak” per se but it’s at a consistently “alright” state that wears on me.

Song breakdowns:

GREAT - 1
GOOD - 7
DECENT - 17
AVERAGE - 9
MEDIOCRE - 0
BAD - 0

for as alright as that song breakdown looks this round feels a bit more... homogeneous than the last one, though there's certainly EPs I like more than others on first listen and most of these feel like growers. we'll see. I'll try to get this round out sooner simply due to the smaller amount of music here (though it's probably not that much shorter than round 0, realistically)

i didn't really expect the rest of this album to be like the shaman and, yeah, it's mostly just straight power metal. not really for me, i'll just take the one fun & groovy song here. like, okay, i got through the entire thing but i hardly remember any of it, just wasn't too interesting

i did not, however, get all the way through this one. technically by my rules i wouldn't have checked this out normally anyways but the rest of the album is more power metal than prog, again, and i already wasn't too wild about the prog sound of the song i had heard before. didn't find it unpleasant, just kind of boring

with this one at first i was like "oh no is this just gonna be all power metal too" but this album is weird in that it switches from more of a power metal album at first to more of a prog album as it goes on, with all of the last four tracks being basically just prog metal/rock with a power metal singer. i mean aside from the last track being a symphonic thing, but you know what i mean. i did overall like this one, it's not revolutionary or anything and i wish there had been more fretless bass 'cause mmm fretless bass. but of the three this is the one I do plan to revisit

No way. The last round was the first EP I've ever done for Parama and it only just scraped through, so this one isn't mine. All the others are less positive and could all conceivably be mine.

You may never like it, but the last thing Holy Land is is a straight power metal album.

Based on your reaction to the albums and how you feel about The Shaman vs The Shadow Hunter, I'd say that Holy Land would have a bigger chance of growing on you than Temple of Shadows. (But ToS is totally awesome too and also seems to need time to grow on some listeners.)
