i listened to the whole thing and i don't really hear it. the guitar solo at the very end comes vaguely close to sounding like mithras but that's about it

that being said it was solid but not something i see myself being especially into

We'll see..... Let's just say, I'm super happy with how it turned out. I probably put almost 100 hours in to finding and compiling the concept album over the last month or so. Perhaps you won't like parts of it, perhaps you will like all of it, who know....

this is a weird one alright... okay so the concept is basically split into two halves here (reminds me of razia's shadow by forgive durden, which had a similar issue - ), the second half is not nearly as much my style as the first half and honestly feels like a lot of the songs there are way too long too, but the first half is pretty consistently great. i'm glad i followed the lyrics on genius while i was listening since it's pretty easy to follow the plot that way, and it's maybe a bit overwrought but makes for good music nonetheless. still not fully wild about this whole thing though, we'll see

yeah i basically heard all the important parts of this one already, the three tracks you didn't send are all ambient-y atmospheric things. it's a better experience to listen to it this way than on the EP you sent though, that's all i really have to add

gonna try and power through a lot of these this week, hopefully

I cant disagree with your assessment of the Kardashev EP. It's a great bit of music on it's own, but I had an epiphany while listening to it and out came the EP you got. $:-\$

The new album they are working on is supposed to expand on that sound and story. I believe they are trying to pull a Coheed and Cambria with a multi album story.

mmm there's a few good tracks here but my assessment basically boils down to "well it's not as good as the phoebe bridgers solo album so i'm not gonna bother checking this out further until after i've gotten that one". dominos is absolutely the standout track among the bunch. a few tracks i was kinda meh on, especially the synthpop-y one

i'm not super surprising by this but the rest of this album isn't as interesting as the song i was sent. it basically is mostly just... power metal, all right.
the djenty guitar tones are about the only notable flavor, i listened through half of this and was just bored, it ain't awful but not for me

this album as a whole is kind of a slow burn and i feel like it'd need several listens for me to properly comment on it. i did enjoy it but i didn't love it either. i also kind of want to check out a few of their older albums just because but i might do that after getting this one (if i do) 'cause that takes time

i also started the nailed to obscurity album but got pulled into something else after the first song so i'll listen to the rest of that + the one i cinema album after that. don't have super high hopes for the latter there either but hey we'll see

on the whole i'd say that yeah, i do like, this, BUT. the sound is a bit dry and not really too dynamic. i'll get a relisten but I don't imagine myself ever getting too excited about this sound

liked this better than i was expecting, even if it's not super diverse. they're good at writing hooks and riffs in general, just that there's not a ton of meat to most of these songs and i suspect it would wear out on repeated listens quickly.

Have actually been away this week but am back now.

Yeah the One I Cinema album is solid, I'd say give it some more listens and see if it settles well with you. So many great riffs and hooks.

And yeah Borealis don't have a great deal of variety so I'm not particularly surprised by your reaction. They're really really at what they do, just what they do is fairly limited. The other album I sent you a song from, Purgatory, is better IMO but you may still find it fairly samey.

Final Round First Impressions

Aside from one song I feel like this one is pretty cohesive as well as most of the artists bringing their own sound to the table, and on the whole it works pretty well.

It’s hard to comment on this one in a first impression context because I can already tell this is the kind of thing that’s either going to grow on me with relistens as I get more familiar with the songs, or lose my interest and start to bore me.

There’s certainly a few tracks here I’m looking forward to revisiting and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some growers either but it’s not blowing me away either.
