known: i don't think any other part of this was as good as the first half of selfsame, but then no other part was as awkward/out of place as the middle of selfsame either. it's a bit long (70+ minutes) for an album that doesn't feel too diverse but i'll probably revisit it at least once all the same, I did like it
learned: hhhmm. I just didn't find much of this very compelling. I can deal with quiet albums just fine, but quiet albums from prog metal bands usually don't tend to be that interesting, damnation from opeth being a notable exception. this is basically just the same sound as the loud disc except not loud, though

more album listens

i checked this out more out of morbid curiosity than anything tbh. i made it thru like the first three or so tracks before giving up but i did check the in flames track which sounded exactly like an in flames track alright

this was not quite what i was expecting. nothing else on the album is as upbeat as conscious self, not even close. it's mostly like. kinda toolish? the random atmospheric interludes and the general vibe gave off that impression at least. didn't dislike it but it didn't inspire much in me either. might revisit, maybe not

i listened through this whole thing and it really just seems like it's not for me. most songs didn't really evoke any sort of emotion, one or two were even a bit annoying, ehh.

I would give Silversun Pickups first album a listen. There's a lot more passion behind it. A little bit more raw. And overall better and more consistent. I like Swoon, but Carnavas is my go to album.
