Yeah, hopefully nobody gives them any blow back for this. Claudio would be the first one to tell you that he's far from being a very technical player. However, I have to give him (and anybody else capable) for being able to sing while playing at the same time. When I used to play guitar I'd be lucky to walk around without stumbling, much less trying to sing at the same time.
All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again

Eric Gillette should get an honorable mention too.

This list right backs up and reinforces my stance on why I always take these sorts of lists with a grain of salt.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Only honorable mention? He's a waaaaaay better guitar player than Steven Wilson. Don't get me wrong, I love SW, but he doesn't belong in that list, but EG does.

I completely agree on that one!  :tup

Maybe, but it seems to be based on 2018 accomplishments and what has he done in 2018 in comparison to those listed?  Serious question, not trolling I only know Eric from NMB and MP's TSF and those were way more active in 2017 so I could agree if the list was based off then.  This list doesn't seem to be based on actual guitar abilities and since it names two people in the same band multiple times, it kind of comes off as best prog metal guitar driven bands of the year 2018 and not "best prog guitarists in the world right now"

This list right backs up and reinforces my stance on why I always take these sorts of lists with a grain of salt.

And this, it's just opinion so everyone's list would be different.

You could argue if JP, SW and the Opeth guys should be in the 2018 list.
JP just did the G3 Tour but didn't release anything new, same for the others.

Having them in the list gives it a kind of 'Career Award' feeling.

I think the Between the Buried and Me guys and Ihsahn should have made the top 10 based on the stuff they released this year.
Haken and Tesseract are obvious choices for me.
