I just had an idea to do one of these prediction polls so once the tracklist is revealed, we can see how many got it correct.

Kind of a dumb thread idea but I wanted to know what people think it's going to be.

(also here's a strawpoll link if you want to vote there as well)

Scorpion

I'm going 11 because they said something about the songs being shorter and more concise, similarly to DT12, but we haven't heard anything about a big epic that would take up lots of space so far, whereas I remember the existence of a 20+-minute epic being known quite early with DT12.

MirrorMask

10, because there was a photo of a "song 10" panel and it seems the right compromise between their focus on "tighter songs" and the freedom to go wilder with the songs after the limitations of The Astonishing.

I voted 11, because of exactly what you said, plus the mentioned "bonus track".

Mladen

Knowing that there will be a bonus song or two, I went with 10.

DTA

I'm guessing 8 with two bonus tracks (not included on the regular edition of the album).

Another_Won

I took it as official tracks listed in the liner and went with 10.  Not including the bonus track.

But do bonus tracks count as the album track count?

Is there more than 1 bonus track?

I think He means "should bonus tracks in general count toward their albums' track counts?" Rather than "should this album's bonus tracks count?"

wolven74

I don't care. As long as the songs are good, and some decent length tracks, I'm good.

No.  If it is not on the proper album, then it does not count as one of the album tracks.

RoeDent

We haven't had a 10-tracker from them yet, so let's go for that.

This. I went with ten songs, excluding the bonus tracks.

Ben_Jamin

I went with 11...

Because of the Treasure Hunt and the number on the skull, 137...

1+3+7=11

pg1067

I voted 12 or more, but only because "Kevin Moore" wasn't an option.

fadetoblackdude7

10 tracks sounds about right to me. All I ask is that there's at least 2 songs over 10 minutes.

That's what I hope too. I like concise songs, but I do love my 10+ minute DT epics.

Same here. It'd be a nice blend of ADTOE and DT12 (killer "short" songs and amazing 10+ minute tracks).

fadetoblackdude7

I'd be perfectly content with one 10 minute song, one 15-17 minute song and the rest being around 5-6 minutes.

Polarbear

I'd actually be perfectly fine if there are no 10+ minute songs on this album at all. It all depends on the songwriting. Sometimes less is more.

Symphony X is perfect example on how they ditched the 12+ minute songs, but managed to keep all the essential elements of the band intact. Paradise Lost is my favorite SymX album, and Underworld is almost as good.

And I bet on 11 songs for this album..

This is the first time I ever heard this opinion, and I completely agree!

I would actually be totally fine with no 10+ mins songs on this album, but I really don't mind because DT have never disappointed me. Although I'd like the songs to be a little better structured and thought-through than f.e. Surrender To Reason.

Here's another question:

Do Bonus Tracks count toward the 80 minute limit?

Pound4aBrown

I voted 8, just because they recorded 10 songs doesn't mean they all made the cut.

Setlist Scotty

Nothing has been said or shown to suggest they wrote more than 10 songs (although it is possible). So considering that one song is a bonus track, I would guess the proper album has 9 songs.
Quote from: BlobVanDam on November 13, 2015, 07:37:14 PMAs a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Anxiety35

I'm the lone guy who said 7 or less. I was thinking 7 songs that were 10 minutes or so in average time.

If they release the special edition bonus track(s) on the same disc, then yes, they count. If the bonus track(s) end up in a second disc, that's a completely different story.

This..

Funny that that is actually their average number of tracks [10.54 to be precise (137 songs/13 albums)]... although before TA the average was almost two points below [8.58 (103 songs/12 albums)]..
