For those who don't have time to sit through 12 minutes, the most interesting parts of this interview is that "At Wit's End" was the first song they wrote, and at that point they did not know the track order, but did know for sure what the closer would be.

Thanks for sharing man!

And wow, this is only "part 1"!  :)

Usually when DT do a part 1, part 2 is something to look forward to.

For those who don't have time to sit through 12 minutes, the most interesting parts of this interview is that "At Wit's End" was the first song they wrote, and at that point they did not know the track order, but did know for sure what the closer would be.

So At Wit's End is the song 10?

No, I named two separate things:

1. At Wit's End was the first thing they wrote

2. Among the songs they had written, they don't know how they will order the songs, but they know what the closer will be

I think it will be the opener the way they talked about it.  Just a guess though.

Yeah it makes sense, as it's the first fresh thing they came up with.

Keep in mind though that In the Name of God was the first song they wrote for Train of Thought

He probably doesn't feel the need to say much since everyone else is so quick to chime in. Jordan and John P seem to do most of the talking. Cool interview though!

The album is currently being mastered. Is that what I heard? Does that mean it will be a while before a single is ready?

Mastering shouldn't take too long, but I think it's more likely we'll have the single next month.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

I'm almost sure that At Wit's End is the song 10 😁 From RollingStone: "and the scrambling, hot-wire instrumental interplay that peppers At Wit's End."

The interview released today confirmed that At Wit's End was the first song written, so Song 10 wouldn't make sense.

Plus, hot-wire instrumental interplay can describe maybe 90% of all of DT's songs

Petrucci even called it "Song 1" on the video.

Perhaps it will be the song 10 on the record even if it was written first  ;)

I'd consider it, but the Song 10 video was clearly labeled "Writing Sessions"

The '18 days of writing' makes me wonder: did they write everyday, including weekends, from June 11 to June 28 (the day of the Facebook Q&A? Or did they skip weekends and a few other days, until July 10 (the date of the burgers video/pic announcing the end of writing)?

I assume that they were the days of actual writing, not including therefore weekends, days off, and time spent on burgers.

I could be wrong, but I thought I heard/read somewhere that they still were going home on weekends. So I would guess July 10.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Forgive me if it's been answered, but does anyone know who the interviewer is and what is his relationship to the band?
I'm really looking forward to this album and hoping it brings me back closer to the band as I've drifted away with the last few albums.
