My shout is Saxon from Rock the Nations to Sacrifice, 12 album run.... though that’s just personal opinion. Most people would disagree and I accept that. I’d also go Wishbone Ash’s twin barrels burning to Illuminations, 5 album run!

Interesting. You're not far off. But their latest album, Thunderbolt was a HUGE step down from Sacrifice.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

For me:

Marillion: Script > Fugazi > MC > CaS
Zeppelin: IV > Houses of the Holy > Physical Grafitti
Deep Purple: Book of Taliesyn > Deep Purple > In Rock > Fireball (this is sort of a technicality, though)
REM:  Reckoning > Fables of the Reconstruction > Lifes Rich Pageant > Document
U2:  October > Unforgettable Fire > War > Joshua Tree > Achtung Baby

Interesting that I'm realizing that a lot of debut albums are really good, and there's a fall off - with a subsequent rise back up - in many of my favorite bands' catalogues.   (I love Shades of Deep Purple, Murmer and Boy)

First, you're doing it backwards.  Second, War came out before UF, and you forgot about R&H.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Except that there was the album Battering ram in between, which IS a step down from Sacrifice. But Thunderbolt is a step up from Battering ram.  ;)

Porcupine Tree: Stupid Dream < Lightbulb Sun < In Absentia for sure. And I might be able to even extend it to a four or five album run on any given day because IA, Deadwing, and Fear of a Blank Planet are all pretty close for me.
Photobucket sucks.

Generally speaking, on average, I have found that a particular writing core/stable band's third album is usually their pinnacle. It varies, but usually that means a run of at least 1-2-3.

Queensryche comes to mind - The Warning-Rage-Mindcrime. After that, for them, mileage varies.

Obviously, the entire thing is based on personal taste.

Definitely Opeth up to Blackwater Park. And although they dropped off a bit with Deliverance, the other three albums prior to Heritage continue the same level of quality.

Dream Theater from FII to Six Degrees would count there too for me.

Pink Floyd: Piper through WYWH
I would personally argue The Beatles had an almost perfect progression until Let It Be

For The Beatles, I would go from 'For Sale' onward, as that was the weak link up til the end.

The Police:  Regatta de Blanc>Zenyatta Mondatta>Ghost In The Machine>Synchonicity

Queen:  Their first five.  'A Night at the Opera' was their masterpiece, but 'A Day at the Races' shows a bit more 'maturity', and Side Two is my favorite in their entire catalogue.

Aerosmith:  up through 'Rocks'.  One can rightfully argue that 'Toys In The Attic' was their best, but like with Queen and ADATR, Side Two of 'Rocks' is my favorite side in their catalogue.
...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

Nevermore - s/t, Politics of Ecstasy, Dreaming Neon Black, possibly Dead Heart in a Dead World

Slayer - Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood

Blur's first four albums.  All of their fans have their different opinions, but for me they peaked at #4 (The Great Escape).
