My problem with 95% of the music I don’t care for is the vocals. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a song and went, “wow, this guitar player sucks. No thanks!”. Hell, I like Twisted Sister! 😊 And such is the case here; the vocals weren’t up to the standards of the rest of the song. But, the song was good. I had a hard time finding a lyric sheet (I know it was a lyric video, but I read way faster than they sing so it’s hard to follow the line of thought). I’m curious enough to want to know more, even if it’s just to suss out the role of the cat in this; is the cat evil? Or is it tongue in cheek, since just about every reference to the band talks of their “dark humor”? I didn’t find much about the band either, so I’m kind of floating here.
Theocracy is just the opposite. Nice touch with the Christian Rock song; not necessarily my thing, but I’m open minded and I love Neal, so there. One thing we don’t talk about a lot on this site is the vibe from music; I LOVE positivity in music. I don’t need preaching, I don’t need messages, but I general go to music to be lifted; it’s not a small part of why Going For The One is my favorite album, and Genesis might be my favorite band. When they sing “Glory! Glory! Hope is alive!” you don’t have to be a Christian or grasp the resurrection allegory to be boosted by that, and it certainly resonated with me. Liked the “Priest-like” guitars at the 5:00-5:30 mark.

This has kind of a mix of the comments for Theocracy and Spiral Key here; nice touch with the Christian rock song; also very positive and uplifting without being preachy or obnoxious. Likewise, I didn’t think the vocals were up to the standards of the rest of the song. But, the song was good. I especially liked the very Awake-esque section near the end. A lot of bands wear their DT influence on their sleeve, but it’s invariably Metropolis II era, not the earlier (and in my view, just as interesting) Moore-era work.
In contrast, I liked the Echoes, because I thought the vocals fit the music very well. I listened to the intro section, because, well, it’s not really enjoyable to just have songs plucked out of nowhere, and I’m rather deferential to the artist intent. Another band that I couldn’t find a ton of info on, though I did get the lyrics. I liked the contrast of external “good v. evil” and the internal struggle of “good v. evil”.
