Okay, we're all in. I need a couple more listens (and have to listen to Lowdz's stuff) but things are shaping up.
So... what was I looking for? I didn't honestly have anything specific in mind. I knew "favorites" and I knew "b-side", but I realized I couldn't really tell any creativity with "what is your favorite?" so I threw in the Kiss reference, just to see how that would be taken. I got a couple good responses, and some of you are going to nail the three points (2+1) hands down. Some of you will get 2, and at least one of you is going to get... less than that, because honestly, I missed it.
The two best:
One guy (this is as close as you're getting to hangman, at least this round, so you can guess):
Michael Schenker's Temple of Rock:
Wicked Crowded House:
Lester (Added bonus of this being what I consider the quintessential b-side type song)
"Wicked" and "Lester". Then he said "If I need to say more, then KISS ain't your favourite band
" (Wicked Lester was the pre-Kiss band for Gene and Paul; not their first, though, since they were in a band called Rainbow before that).
Somebody else scored full points in a totally different way, one in which I never expected:
Night Flight Orchestra: Paralyzed (Kiss has a song "Paralyzed" from Revenge, but this isn't it)
Night Flight Orchestra: Living for the Nighttime
I swear; these two songs captured the essence of Kiss almost perfectly; it was "Unmasked" Kiss, but it was still Kiss (and I love Unmasked, frankly). I could hear Gene's baselines (even though he likely didn't play them then), the drums were vintage Anton Fig (even though Peter got the credit)... even the lyrics were vintage "Naked City"-esque Kiss. I never in a million years would have guessed that they were recorded in the late 2000's by Swedish metal players.
Not to say others didn't nail it too, but I thought these were good enough to use as examples.
Also, the next two themes (for you to start thinking about, though we're still doing one round at a time; don't send yet):
"Is it live or is it Memorex?"
"Stadler, high school Class of 1985".
Remember, CREATIVITY! I have nothing specific in mind with the second one, but I do have something in mind for the first (that doesn't mean it's the only right answer though!) Still two songs, still an A-side and a B-side, still looking for some killer tunes...
