Dreadnought doesn't strike me as the type of band that would be popular here, but searching does show a few results for them.  "Liminal Veil" and "The Paradigm Mirror" were the standout tracks for me so far.

I have faith in the diversity of DTFers taste enough to say there's at least one fan, of any band you'd care to mention,on here.

Dreadnought definitely have a few fans on here.

Yep! I'm one. Been listening to them since someone sent a Dreadnought song in one of my roulettes. Can't remember who sent it or which roulette.

At any rate, the new album is really good.

Revocation  :metal :metal

One of the best modern day technical thrash bands. They absolutely crush live! If these guys were around in the 80's or early 90's they would have been huge. Amazing musicians!

I don't know, would they have been?  Tech thrash always was a niche.  Voivod, Coroner, Sadus, Forbidden, Watchtower and the like never had nearly the audience the big four+ did.  Nor did death/thrash like Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint, Vader and such.  Deathless in particular is a fantastic album though.

They kind of are though, aren't they?  At least as far as modern bands go.  Vektor had a bit more critical acclaim ( though they've probably taken a hit from that situation a few years ago) but Revocation is up there as well as far as I can tell.  In addition, they have significantly more Spotify listeners than any of the bands I mentioned other than Vader.

Voi Vod are much bigger and before streaming.  The market is so over saturated these days. If streaming is the gauge then I have no clue. I don't stream any music except for sampling to buy.

It's not perfect, but it can give an indication for how popular bands are currently,  Particularly if you also look at things like views for songs/albums on Youtube, last.fm plays, Facebook fans, number of ratings and reviews on various aggregation sites, and other metrics.

I had many a conversation with Mike Romeo about streaming actually and bands don't make much at all. He pretty much feels albums get people to come to shows to sell merch etc. Video killed the radio star as streaming killed the rock star. I'm not saying Mike doesn't enjoy writing and recording albums as he very much does, I'm just saying its no secret streaming doesn't make the working band rich. If you don't tour its tough to make a living unless you have other means to earn. Its tough.

Yeah, but then album/CD sales never made bands rich either, other than some of the big names.  Just an unfortunate reality of the music industry.

Listened to those three yesterday and firing up Woe now. I wasn't particularly wowed by any of them, but will give it a week and go back to them.

fallujah sure was a tech death album. revocation i skipped because meh. warforged was really disappointing, their frontman left and apparently took all the good ideas with him

Their vocals really test my limit, but musically, I love them. But I like music like that. If they could just tone this vocals down a bit....

The new An Abstract Illusion is amazing, and such a grower. First listen I knew I liked it but wasn't sure how much - there's a lot to take in, and it's more varied and experimental than their last album. But damn if I don't love it now.

A few I'll be checking out come Friday...

Destrage - SO MUCH. too much.
The Mars Volta - The Mars Volta
Behemoth - Opvs Contra Natvram
Clutch - Sunrise on Slaughter Beach
The Murlocs - Rapscallion
Gogol Bordello - Solidaritine

The main one I'm actually looking forward to is the new Mars Volta though.

I'm curious about Destrage...their albums (at least what I've heard) are usually fun. Also hope for a good Clutch record.

Another one I'm looking forward to is the new Sumerlands (Dreamkiller). Their self-titled debut from 2016 was great.

On my friday list I've got:

Destrage (their last 2 albums were such letdowns, I'm hoping this is better)
Clutch
Mars Volta (I'm cautiously optimistic for this release)
Sumerlands
Edenbridge
Death Cab for Cutie (their last 3 albums have been pretty much useless, I'm hoping for a turnaround)

The one I have is Are you Kidding Me? No., which I really like. Then I think I've heard A Means to an End, and some other songs here and there...

Sumerlands

Yes! I assume you liked the debut...?
