Warforged - I: Voice: https://open.spotify.com/album/1kS9bkcY4yORQ9IVN5N4Y2
Progressive death metal, really damn cool also. On first listen this strikes me as a potential AOTY candidate.

Dreadnought - Emergence: https://dreadnoughtdenver.bandcamp.com/album/emergence
More jazzy, experimental metal from these guys. Nothing too fresh for them but I dig it all the same

We Never Learned To Live - The Sleepwalk Transmissions: https://open.spotify.com/album/0LOuFauCKuireSkXxx4Ert
Listened to a lot of post-hardcore releases this year, this is one of the best I've heard in the genre so far

Inanimate Existence - Clockwork: https://open.spotify.com/album/2pSjswovkQY2HWISQji1Tc
Good but probably not necessary tech death release, still enjoyed it a fair bit

Spirit Adrift - Divided by Darkness: https://open.spotify.com/album/1Rhb00yOhwoDA4e5ozkn02
More doom/heavy metal from this band, felt a bit more upbeat and varied than their last record tbh, liked it more than I expected

Defeater - Defeater: https://open.spotify.com/album/1zu0hVMxzCynLQg4wOIjAr
More pretty solid post-hardcore, though I didn't like this one quite as much as the other one I called out

Nyss - Dépayser: https://avantgardemusic.bandcamp.com/album/d-payser
Kinda cool blackened death metal (?) type release with some nice strings and general prog feel

was a pretty solid week for new releases

There were some interesting musical parts. but goddamn those vocals  :|

I listened to the first track last night. Seems like it could be a great album. Gonna dig in to it more next week.

You should've sent it to Evermind.

I actually thought about sending him the new Arch/Matheos album since he doesn't have them on the banned list, but I couldn't remember if he liked John Arch era Fates Warning or not.

A week late with this one:
Boogarins - Sombrou Duvida
Brazilian Psych Rock.  Lots of trippy and weird sounds.
https://boogarins.bandcamp.com/album/sombrou-d-vida
"I don't know nuttin about nuttin" - Marshawn Lynch

The very soul of what was once real music is now lost in a digital quagmire of emotionless sonic madness.

Epectase - Astres: https://i-voidhangerrecords.bandcamp.com/album/astres
progressive black metal, some long and pretty adventurous tracks, diverse and intense where it needs to be, dug this a lot

Destrage - The Chosen One: https://open.spotify.com/album/5ZnVNr9q2jL5x1tPV6Osnl
not really reminiscent of their earlier stuff but it's kinda protest the hero-y, almost. melodic and technical metalcore, basically

Atlases - HAAR: https://open.spotify.com/album/3YXgVERAsQ1OfTcFbdm4Gv
hard to really classify this one, it's caught between more atmospheric moments, some more bombastic stuff, kinda dark & heavy vibes throughout. neat stuff tho

Cool. Thank you for the link. I was looking for this on Spotify and they didn't have it.

I don't think this is for me. The music is not really good enough to put up with those vocals. I like some of the middle parts. They are pretty groovy, but the songs really go on and on.

So wait...one guy does harsh and operatic vocals, and the other guy does the clean and guttural vocals?
Wut? :lol

In the roulettes I've been in over the last year with you guys, I've discovered more music in figuring what to send. A lot of it was new to me. But I never sent something that I didn't personally like. I figure, it has to be good enough to put my name on it.

That said, while I am open now to harsh vocals, all harsh vocals are not created equally. Plus, the music really has to hold it up and make it worth it for me.

Half way through this and holy shit this is awesome! It reminds me a lot of Witherfall.

Slightly related:

The prog metal sub of Reddit (reddit.com/r/progmetal) has a weekly listening event (kinda like we do sometimes with plug.dj) where they play 4-5 new releases every week and invite band members where possible to join in and chat with people there about their new releases. It's a cool way to find out about new stuff, and they always post a schedule of which albums will be played. https://discordapp.com/invite/JemGSYk
They also keep track of a document with a bunch of upcoming albums: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fQFg52uaojpRCz29EzSHVpsX5SYVJ2VN8IuKs9XA5W8/edit#gid=100769618
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.
