This came out last Friday, but I was too distracted by the new Marillion and forgot it was coming out.

Kite Parade - The Way Home

https://kiteparade.bandcamp.com/album/the-way-home

Debut album (essentially a solo project) from multi-instrumentalist Andy Foster, but features Nick D'Virgilio on drums and was produced by Rob Aubrey (who works with Big Big Train). Very synthy prog pop from the sound of the two songs on the Bandcamp page. Just ordered the CD from Laser CD, so I'll have to report back once I get it.

The Rush Moving Pictures 40th anniversary. The live show is pretty good.

I'm liking the new Monuments as well but just discovered Astronoid so I'm a bit hooked with them.

already liking this more than their last record "Sympathetic Magic" from 2021. The horns and strings seem to be back!

Yeah, this one is great, easily going to contend for upper spots on my end of the year rankings.

Indeed it is. A little "darker" than the last few, relatively speaking. Have you heard any other album of theirs?

Just finished up listening to this, it was really good. Cheers for the recommendation.

Excited for this one today:

I know I listened to their album Blackout a few years ago. Can't remember a great deal about it though, I'll give this a shot.

Not one! Never heard of them before your post.

Oh, you should definitely explore some more, I think there's plenty to enjoy for you...

They've been around since the mid-2000s...one of their guitar players' main band is Enslaved, but clearly the sound is different here. Their debut ("No Hay Banda") is ok, but things get seriously good after that. "Le Fol" sounds like a mix of Faith No More, some alternative rock and prog(-ish) 70s hard rock. It actually works and it's a really cool album. "Audrey Horne" continues on that path, maybe a little more direct, and has a warm, inviting sound (check out Charon, Blaze of Ashes, Bridges and Anchors for more straight rockers, and Pitch Black Mourning for something a little more elaborate).

Then, with the next album "Youngblood", they ditch most of the weirdness and embrace classic hard-rock/metal influences, somewhere around the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s. This might well be my favorite of theirs. The first three songs (Redemption Blues, Straight Into Your Grave and Youngblood) are gold but the whole thing is great, really. The playing is so good and there's so many catchy melodies and choruses. There's a couple of moodier rockers too that fit just right (The Open Sea, probably my favorite, and The King is Dead).

Follow-up "Pure Heavy" dials up the 70s influence a bit and is fantastic too. Out of the City is basically a Thin Lizzy tribute. The NWOBHM influences pop up in High and Dry, which is another great tune.

Lastly (before the one that just came out), there's "Blackout", which Luke mentions above - this one's a little more laid back and slicker (maybe more 80s than 70s). I don't like it quite as much, but it's still a collection of very good songs.

Anyway, give Youngblood and Pure Heavy a try...and then maybe go back to the older stuff too. These guys are pretty good.

My review...

 :lol

I'd say the song Break Out is obviously inspired by that...I can hear a Bark at the Moon feel in the main riff for that one, no doubt.

But in general the album is more heavily influenced by NWOBHM than their most recent ones...I mean, the influence was always there for some songs, but the scale is definitely tipped that way for this record.

Yea totally, I made the meme whilst listening to Break Out  :lol

I liked the album though. And you mentioning a member of Enslaved being in the band reminded me why I was aware of them.

I have the self-titled Audrey Horne album but have never listened to anything else by them. I’ll check out the new one.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Omnium Gatherum

Would be awesome to see Omnium Gatherum come out with an album called King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard later this year.   ;D

Is that even possible anymore?  If you Google the term half the links are still about the band.

Two quality releases that just came out and I didn't see threads for are Tigran Hamasyan with StandArt, which is eclectic jazz, and Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway with Crooked Tree, which is progressive bluegrass and has a lot of cool guest appearances from that field.
