it definitely is bruno mars and anderson .paak making an album of 70's soul, funk, and disco pastiches alright
i liked it, like every song is a 7 or 7.5 out of 10 but man is it wholly unspecial  :lol

I thought it was fantastic.  Much better than most of what passes for "pop" these days.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

Oh wow, that Damian Wilson one wasn't even on my radar, that'll be a treat.  Supposedly the new Arena album with him should be out in the near future as well, definitely looking forward to that.

Finally they are getting a decent singer again. I have a hard time revisiting the last couple of albums since I can't stand the vocals, but Wilson should change that.

Tonight/tomorrow looks to be the last bigger release day of the year.  Cynic, Hypocrisy, Lock Up, Paul Gilbert, We Are the Catalyst, The Tea Party, Rhapsody of Fire, In Mourning, Black Label Society, Deep Purple, Eternity's End, Negura Bunget, Kotzen/Smith EP, TEETH.  A few scattered interesting releases throughout December, but not as much, which is good because I have a mountain of releases to give another (or a first) listen to for end-year lists.

I've been really trying to cut back on new music this year so far, but I think this weekend is going to drag me back into it.  I'm particularly curious about Ashes of Ares, Kate Havnevik, Hanging Garden, Giant, 40 Watt Sun, Battle Beast, AURORA, and Aoife O'Donovan.

Retreat From Moscow - The World as We Knew It

Been looking forward to checking out this release by a "new" but actually old neo-progressive band who have just now released their first album 40 years after they broke up.

The new Dawn of Solace ("Flames of Perdition") is coming out tomorrow. Their previous record was one of my favorites (if not THE favorite) in 2020, so I'm looking forward to this.

Anyone else excited? TAC?  ;D

I didn't like this bands sound at first but they grew on me immensely.  The first album was really great so this should be no different.

They've pre-released three songs off the new album so far. One of those videos was really fucking dark.

The other album that I'm looking forward to tomorrow is Scream Maker's Bloodking.

This dude has some pipes. Hopefully this won't be my favorite song, but it sure makes me hopeful for a decent metal album.

EDIT: This was actually released today. The Amazon download is $7.99. Done!

I am actually a big sucker for that kind of sound, so I'm an easy target anyway... ;D But, yes, "Waves" is fantastic. They have another album from all the way back in 2006 which is pretty good too (that one has a good amount of harsh vocals)

It's kind of a cross between Dawn Of Solace and Unto Others. I haven't pulled the trigger on a purchase yet, but it's a pretty cool album.

Kade, the solo on this song fucking shreds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFK3ShfF5RU

So my first listen verdict is this. It's 15 tracks, but would make a much stronger and tighter 10 track album. It does seem to lose a bit of steam about 2/3rds in. Still I think there's a lot here you'd like. They're German, so the Schenker influence is real. Reminds me a bit of Save Yourself. Mirror Mirror is easily the most rifftastic of the bunch. A lot of these songs have an 80's arena style metal feel, which ain't a bad thing and I think you'd dig some of it.

It's definitely worth a listen.

This is a good slab of German gothic metal  :) Very catchy. Vocals and drums are very "forward" in the production. Salems Hell has some cool Lake of Tears vibes too...

Yaatri - Lucid

https://yaatri.bandcamp.com/album/lucid

First full-length release from this UK jazz/art rock (prog?) outfit, with an Asian/Indian flavor. Really enjoyed their 2020 EP Reach. So far this one sounds a bit more jazzy than the EP, but still quite interesting.
