I know this isn't quite to the tastes of most that post in this thread, but Girish and the Chronicles (old-school hard/glam rock) released another album today, after just having dropped one last year.

it kicks ass

Lucifer V, the fifth album (you don't say?) from the namesake retro doom occult band, Lucifer.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Looking forward to the new Madder Mortem this Friday!

Definitely.

Cool. Got a couple of their albums in my Spotify Library.

On the last track.  It's a good album, but it's a bit dense and they've never been one for strong hooks.  Honestly, while I've heard most of their albums, they're still in my "like but don't fully love" category.  Might just be a matter of piling up the listens for things to stand out.

I listened to the first song, Saved it, and moved on.

Wow, this was outstanding.  I could see it being my favorite of theirs after a few plays.

Just finished this one.  It's remarkable how consistent they are.

One listen in and I liked it too, but it'll require more listens (that's typically the case with them anyway). Some things stood out right away, others are their "typical untypical" stuff, if that makes any sense. They don't sound like much else, really, but at the same time they do have an approach they tend to stick to

My feeling towards them is not too different from yours, overall...ok, maybe a little closer to "love"  ;) I always greatly enjoy their records, I like how unique they are, and they tick a lot of boxes. Not full-blown "wow", though.

Never checked them out, actually. Maybe it's time!

To me, they've always been the Danish version of Angra, but perhaps even more consistent......Actually I'll take it a step farther and say they've been even better at evolving and progressing their sound over the years while still maintaining that prog/power metal sound I love.

Hmm, Angra isn't a comparison I would think of, but I'm not super familiar with their discography.  Manticora to me is more like Blind Guardian mixed with Nevermore.  I guess it's that thrash element that jingle doesn't respond to as well that I didn't realize until too late.

Didn’t know about the new Pearl Jam stuff either. The new song is pretty good, though it might fall in the category of “do I really need more of this?” for me.

Bela Fleck - Rhapsody in Blue

https://open.spotify.com/album/73qsYL8E216T9bZm3nYbGG

Been spinning this for a few days now and I *love* it. "Rhapsody In Blue" is one of my favorite pieces ever and hearing Bela put his touch on it, and in three versions no less, is quite the treat! The only thing I don't like about this album is the track order, so I've shuffled the songs around a bit to space out the versions of RIB and end with the epic, full orchestra version:
1. Rhapsody In Blue(grass)
2. Rialto Ripples
3. Rhapsody In Blue(s)
4. Unidentified Piece For Banjo
5. Rhapsody In Blue (feat. Eric Jacobsen & Virginia Symphony Orchestra)

It also flows better, IMO, and much more like a vinyl with two evenly spaced 22-minute sides (with the break between tracks 3 and 4). Bela has expertly celebrated the 100th anniversary of Gerswhin's masterpiece and I cannot wait to get my physical CD. I don't really get vinyl much either but I might end up ordering the blue vinyl from his website because it looks really nice.

-Marc.
