Cool thing for collectors for sure.

Personally, I don't buy big box sets for new albums. I prefer to do it years (decades) later, as if the album has become a huge favorite, I have more incentive to spend the money then. I mean, dropping 100 bucks on a box set, before really knowing how an album ages is (for me) wasteful.

If DT announced tomorrow they were doing a box set edition of Awake to celebrate its 25th anniversary, I'd buy it immediately. But the new record? Nah...it needs to age.

At minimum it should come with several human bones.

Were we talking about real bones or replicas?

I think it will be like a special box set.

I think it will be an especially special box set.

It would have to be a limited edition box set based on the amount of skulls they can dig up from abandoned graves.

They could just dig up one body and use the 206 bones and of the 137 box sets only one lucky person would get the skull and some lucky people would get more than one bone or a free piano lesson from Jordan Rudess.

If it doesn't include the vinyls, I won't buy it. I'd like something like Black Clouds.

I am also very happy that they are now with insideout so we don't have to deal with the incompetent "oh sorry we know this album has been hyped and planned for years but we can't ship the vinyl until 2 months later and also it will cost you 30 bucks more than at every place else plus 20 bucks custom duties"-dudes from roadrunner

Honestly I will already be happy with a nice looking package even for the standard edition  :D

The packaging and presentation has been worse for each Mangini album.

Dramatic was just fine, standard case, nice booklet, usual stuff.

DT12 at least in my country came only with the digipack version and the booklet glued to the case.

The Astonishing still had the booklet glued to the case, and the lyrics were all written in that standard Arial font and the liner notes on the back where white on basically white background.

I hope Distance Over Time will be something that will actually make you want to hold it in your hand... I legitimately purchased a physical copy of The Astonishing, and I was reading the lyrics online because I couldn't bother to sit with the whole digipack case in my hands and reading small Arial stuff.
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Was there an official announcement that there will be a "special box set version"?  Got link?

Not that I'm aware - just an assumption. But given that there's been special editions of their albums since SC, and box sets for most (if not all) of them since BCaSL, it's a fairly logical conclusion.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

Tbh, after the debacle around The Astonishing's box set, I wouldn't be surprised if the band were put off from doing something super big.

I bought a 3-CD version of BC&SL and recall there was something beyond that, but I don't remember anything with any of the other albums.  Not the sort of thing I typically pay attention to, though.

after the debacle around The Astonishing's box set

True story: I *still* haven't opened my box set, given that by the time it came, I legitimately didn't care anymore.  Plus from the looks of it, the box top either was placed on too tightly or something pressed on it during shipping, but there's a place where the corner is split somewhat b/c it was pushed down too far.  I'd already seen the tour by then, so anything in the boxset related to the story such as character descriptions  (the cards) or the "world" (the map) were already there in the program I bought at the show.  So the poor little NOMAC has been silent this entire time.

God I hope they don't do that again. So annoying.

Dexter from The Offspring has his own hot sauce, which he sells throughout the US and some other countries.
John getting into cuisine would be pretty cool as well, I think.

Bumblefoot has his own line of hot sauce, so JP can definitely make a cookbook :lol

Would that be the JP Majesty Monarchy steak?  A special glaze sauce over the front side but not on the flip side, with locking forks and knives so it never looses its flavor..  :natalieportman:

A cool special feature (which I don't expect to get) would be a separate Blu-ray of the band performing/rehearsing the songs in-studio, along with a commentary track from the band where they can discuss the writing/demoing and recording sessions.

And a secret decoder ring.

How about including the never released Back at Budokan show?

There is always a possibility that there won't be any box set version. They only ever existed under Roadrunner Records. We don't know if DT's new record deal would allow such a release.

I would like a box set, but I'd be fine without one, too. Insideout always includes the CD(s) with the vinyl, and those two things are the only things I really "need" with an album. Only thing I don't like with IO is when it's a triple album (like Unfold The Future). Then they just squeeze the third vinyl into the cover instead of making it a triple-gatefold.
Still, those boxes look cool on the shelf.

Instrumental version would be great and easy for them to produce
