I've decided, this gonna be the first time I hold back and not listen to singles till the album arrives.
It's worth mentioning that I've made that decision on every album but still ended up listening to the single heh

I did that for The Astonishing, no single, no clips, no anything. Bought the album on release day, heard it in its entirety from start to finish and every single note was equally new to me. It was rewarding to wait.

I started to do that a couple of years ago too and it is very rewarding indeed! Did it for The Astonishing, Haken’s affinity, Vector.. Knopflers, Tangents, Gungflys, Muse’s, Neal Morses, Spock’s Beards, Big Big Train’s etc etc latest releases. But the thing that goes along with it is that I can’t get enough of other people’s opinions about prereleased stuff ;) I don’t want to listen to anything but I wanna know everything about everything :D

Also my best friend does the same thing so at least we go through that difficult yet awesome time of anticipation together!

I heard The Gift of Music and managed to dodge Moment of Betrayal to avoid spoilers when I saw it's in the middle of the album heh

The last time I listened to any songs before the official release was SC, with CM and TDEN. Man what a massive disappointment. Fortunately when I got the album I found it quite enjoyably with those two being the only turds.

Well, I'll do this as well. It will be the first time, but I want to listen to the album with no ideas of how it will sound or what the songs will be like. But it will be difficult.

B.Lee
But if you listened to the teaser that was released (which I think you did), haven't you already prevented yourself from having no ideas of how it will sound, even if it's just 30 seconds?
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

So LaBrie wrote lyrics to another ballad.  Kinda getting sick of him getting the ballads.  I mean, they're good so I guess I shouldn't complain, I just think he shines more with the heavy stuff.

Wonder if he wrote the lyrics to Wit's End since he was the one explaining it.

He indeed wrote At Wit’s End

Sweet! That definitely sounds like something he would write, similar to Anne Lee.  He chooses some heavy topics.

Indeed. Songs like Disappear and Sacrificed Sons come to mind.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

I think Vacant, Prophets of War and Far From Heaven can easily be described as having "heavy topics" too... and that completes the entire list of his lyrics..

What a heavy guy.. :lol

Hm okay. So there were some announcements about Dream Theater coming to Sofia, Bulgaria on July 3rd as a part of the tour. Tickets have been on sale. But I can't find any official word by the band and on their website. They announced a Sweden date the same day the announcement for Sofia came out and that's on the band's site but nothing about the Sofia show. Not rushing to get my ticket yet

If you're able to go through the entire pre-release not listening to anything, more power to you. For me, the single(s) (1) help break down the wait and build up more hype for the album and (2) provide anchor points on the first listen to the full album. It's not 100% terra incognita when the album does get its first spin. I just hope they don't do a Haken and release half the album as singles before the album comes out.

The Wizard has landed!

Tonight, Jordan plays in Buenos Aires. Yesterday, the guys from the local fanclub took him and his wife to a beautiful restaurant of Armenian cuisine, to have dinner. Apparently, Jordan showed them that he had the new album on his phone. So jealous!

I saw that as well. Some of the announcements of the Eastern European dates are already out there, but not from the band themselves. I don't find any of it suspicious, though.

So we're a few of hours away from the existence of the "pelaaaado, pelaaaado..." and the "haceme un hijo Jordan!" type of singing of the bad-ass crowd we are... :lol

Unfortunately, I'm not gonna be part of that mostly due to money issues.. :-\

Yet not officially but an Italian date has been added

JULY 5th Castello Scaligero

They played there with Anathema and Gamma Ray in 2011 (first tour with MM)

Most likely, they’re bringing the whole show.

On the Backs of Angels was released 3 months before ADTOE so it's possible we might get one soon.  Also OTBOA and TEI were released on a Tuesday and TGOM on a Friday (not sure if that has any relevance).

But in 2011 there was a summer tour between July and August and the single was released so early for that reason

IIRC, TGOM was leaked before they could release it properly, so they were forced to release it inmediately from an oficial source.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

I do. It was being posted and immediately deleted everywhere, but I luckily saved the link and spend the rest of the day listening to it nonstop on some less popular video streaming site.

I don't know if the leak forced them to release immediately, or if it was being released anyway and was leaked a few days before

That might be because of the music industry's shift in 2015 to Fridays as global release dates:

They should say ‘side’ instead of ‘disc’ then, it’s a little confusing 😂 Excited though!!
