I am really starting to appreciate the mix and production which is not perfect but it is for sure quite a step up from previous Mangini era albums. If it were not for the overuse of dynamic range compression I am sure this would actually sound great. I pre ordered the Vinyl and the Blu-ray so fingers crossed these will have different mastering.

Untethered angel didn't do much for me at first but it is starting to grow on me. The other two singles are better and I am really liking Paralyzed which I think is the strongest of the three. The trailer has some really excellent stuff so I am pumped for the album.

James looks annoyed that the entire interview went perfectly and then they just had to mention Mike Portnoy in the very last minute.  :lol

I liked the samples, some of the bits sounded cool. S2N has a Rush vibe that reminds me of Surrender to reason.

Check James reaction when Portnoy`s name is mentioned!!! 29.40   :lol

His look to JP was pretty much, "You've gotta be shittin' me."  You could tell he was doing his best to keep his mouth shut and let JP tackle that one.  :lol :lol

Finally got feedback from the InsideOut Music store regarding my pre-order of the art book version. According to the email I got they said I'll get my copy in time for the 22nd. So no delays in this case it would seem.

That is so un-commonplace at DT forums that I was literally taken aback!    :omg:

Yeah, but going back to the video, there is NOTHING there from James on the MP issue.  Folks are just looking for drama where there is none.

I think the look James gave in the interview was "I've never heard that" and seeing if JP had. Let's not read too much into things.

The album trailer is great!

Yeah I watched the interview and I didn't see anything like that from James.
That was a cool story about how the album cover came about.  I'm glad they kept the original concept of the D/T logo inside the pages of the cover so it didn't go to waste.

Loved everything about that teaser. One week almost! Most anticipated tracks now are: Barstool Warrior and At Wit's End.

Watching the entire thing, I can't help but agree. James gives the same expression or look when she mentions Woodstock as well. :)

I listened to the three singles, but I'm going to try to refrain from the trailer. I'd rather not have little pieces of each song spoiled for me. I think I can hold out for the week and a half.

Listened to the teaser earlier today and I haven’t been this excited for a DT album in a very long time. That first riff is just nasty.

May I add that, based on the teaser, this is the best Mangini has sounded.

Here it sounds like he isn't holding back, the cymbals are raised and not as filtered as in the past 2 albums, he is using the ride more, nothing sounds triggered, the snare doesn't have that boost in the lower mids like it did in DT12, everything is panned nicely, and the kit just sounds excellent.

I'm also absolutely loving the actual drum parts themselves. So happy about this!

DREAM THEATER - In Conversation with James LaBrie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4PsYMt3n70&feature=youtu.be

James confirms he recorded the vocals in Canada again with Rich Chycki at the same studio they used for ADTOE, DT and TA.
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

To not compete with Avantasia like they did last year?   Honestly both bands releasing at the same time (last time and one week apart this time) is like Christmas for me.

Cool riff at the start. Sounds like the opening riff of The Test That Stumped Them All.

Right, although I tend to think that both of them may be in different keys and they're definitely different rhythmically speaking (the AWE section is in 4/4 for all we know now and the first measures of TTTSTA are in 13/8, subdivided into 7 and 6. Sorry I am exacting and analytical. Either way, I'm curious to hear how it all will unfold as it were.

Yeah, but very similar types of riffs.  And both occur right at the beginning of their respective pieces to provide that feeling of chaos and uneasiness right from the get go.

Oh Ok. I love them both, that's what I can tell you and I'm sure they both make sense musically and that's what we would want. All good to me.

Is there similarity of the PBD's snippet and TCoT? Or is just a impression?

???  I don't hear any similarity.

EDIT:  Never mind.  I know what part you are referring to.  Yes, you are right--it does sound similar.  But in context of the entire song, I don't think you would normally make that connection.

Reminds me more of a riff you’d find in ITPOE pt2
