HELPFUL LINKSFirst Roulette ThreadRYMLast.FM(Summary for those who don't get it: all you have to do is submit songs and pay attention to my write-ups in the results. If you do that, we'll have a good time.)Welcome to my second roulette! We're going to have some fun with this one. In this roulette, you will try to do as well as you can, like usual... but we're going to play a board-game-of-sorts at the same time. I wanted to do a full album roulette but just don't have the time, so I'm going to compromise and have everyone send 3 songs per round.
You are a group of talented bards journeying the land spreading your music, because that is what you do when you make a career out of the arts and the local wizards have managed to secure music for the townspeople without having to pay for it. Along the way, you will encounter dragons, dwarves, elves, and other challenges. Do you have bad enough tunes to overcome the obstacles in front of you?
FULL SIZE MAP HERERULES1. 3 songs per round - banned list from last roulette still applies.
2. If an artist has a rating of 4.0 or higher on my RYM, they are banned.
3. I'll allow an artist that's on my RYM if they have nothing rated higher than 3.5 and no more than 2 albums rated.
4. 10 rounds. Every 3 rounds, monsters will come out (eliminations). If you don't have a high enough score, you may be killed and/or eaten. Any bonus points acquired may help you stave off the Grim Reaper for a while.
5. The spots with symbols will give you a secret advantage if you get a perfect +3 bonus. The blue spots will let you take a ride on a strange ship at your own peril.
6. NO SONGS OVER 15 MINUTES.
7. MOST IMPORTANT!! At the end of each round, I'll do a little write-up alongside your results. I will ask you if you want to move in a certain direction on the game board, so please make sure to look for that and answer if you have the option to choose a path.
Here's more info on the game board. I've tried to leave the 'challenge' panels broad enough so nobody chokes. If you land on a blank space, you can send anything you want.
Three songs per player, each scored out of 10. The average is the actual score and how many spaces the player will move. Decimals will round up/down as appropriate.
If you take the bonus challenge, you can earn up to 1 bonus point for each song that I think fits the criteria. You aren't required to take them on, but you won't get any bonus points which will be used in the final round or when eliminations occur, which could save your ass. At 80 points you are automatically qualified for the final round and your bonus points will be applied after the final scores have been tallied.
The colored spaces indicate the following challenges:
Green: Elves! Forest theme. Bonus points for no distorted guitars, folk and stringed instruments, soft percussion, and lyrics about nature.
Brown: Dwarves! Earth theme. Bonus points for songs about drinking, songs that rock hard, or a song with a super tight and heavy rhythm section.
Blue: Pirates! Water theme. Bonus points for songs about the sea, traveling on water, drinking, or all things pirate-related.
Red: Dragons! Fire theme. Bonus points for music that is really fast, heavy, epic, and/or about dragons and fire.
Pink: Three songs from an artist I have never heard before (nothing on RYM, a significant lack of listens on Last.FM, consult with me if unsure)
Purple: Three songs from different decades.
Orange: Three songs from the same decade.
Yellow: Three songs from the same year.
BANNED LIST: Along with my first roulette's banned list, add Evergrey, Galneryus, Threshold, Redemption, and everything Neal Morse to it. Anything with a significant amount of growls is banned entirely, no exceptions. The key is 'significant.' Accents or at only specific moments are okay. It's fair game otherwise. I'm very,
very picky about prog metal and power metal so be careful if you send those routes. I'm not going to be as generous as I was last time!
