GUNSHIP Appreciation thread/ Poll added!
« on: October 17, 2018, 06:57:09 AM »
I couldn't find a thread for GUNSHIP so here is one!

Any fans here? Their second album Dark All Day just came out, and it's one of the best albums released this year!

I know this is a Prog forum, but I seriously recommend giving them a shot, even if you don't otherwise listen to electronic music. Beautiful melodies and very 80's inspired sounds and synths. They also have some very influential guests, including Richard K Morgan (The author of Altered Carbon) who gives a foreword in the song "Woken Furies".

Dark All Day is one of my most listened songs of the year for sure :metal the album could use a little trimming but mostly is very good. Also very good cover of Time After Time!
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

Train sent me their debut to help him to victory in the final of my recent roulette. Checked out the new one too and its also excellent! Pretty different in that there's a lot more variety and some new ideas. Debut benefits from consistency of mood/tone throughout, new one maybe a little more exciting if less consistent. All great stuff though!

I am so happy a thread was made for them. I thought I was the only fan. Love both the first album and the new one  :metal

Another big fan here! Loved the debut and the new album is very good as well. If you like them check out their connected band Fightstar which is more "heavy". Another band I really love in the retrowave/synthwave is The Midnight. Glad to see others into Gunship though :tup

Yep! New album is good. I also think it could use some trimming but i really like em.

(Fans of them will also enjoy the Carpenter Brut mix of Ghosts Dance Macabre, i expect!)

I've added a poll to this thread. Which album do you prefer? I think I prefer the debut slightly over Dark All Day.

They also released a new song: "The Video Game Champion" :metal

Never heard of them.  Read the title quickly as STARSHIP.  I'm guessing they are a bit different though.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

I prefer their debut, but the follow up is very strong and I like it a lot.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who at first thought about guns and wondered why this wasn't in the General or Political section.

  ;D
I use my sig to pimp some bands from Italy! Check out Elvenking (Power / Folk metal), Folkstone (Rock / Medieval metal), Arcana Opera (Gothic/Noir/Heavy metal) and the beautiful voice of Elisa!

Not as heavy as Starship - right up your alley

I checked the album out and thought it was ok. I’m not a huge fan of the band or anything, but I can enjoy it when I’m in the mood to hear music that could’ve been on the Transformers soundtrack. It’s a pure nostalgia fix and that’s about as far as my enjoyment goes with the band.

I liked the first album, I haven’t listened to the new one yet. I’ll remedy that today.

Gunship is one of those bands that has a handful of songs that I really really like and the rest are kind of.....meh...

I peed next to Ian Mosley and Mark Kelly

Pretty solid first listen.  I was hoping "Empress of the Damned" could recreate the magic of "Dark All Day" with Tim Cappello, swapping Indiana with Lights (who I have way more listening history with).  It's not on the same level and not really even the same type of song at all, but it's still the highlight so far.  Definitely a few other songs that I could see popping on later listens as well, and some more great work from Cappello on other tracks.

Yeah, solid first impression!

Listened to "Monster in Paradise" before the album came out and I thought it was banging! Rest of the songs are a mixed bag, with some definite highlights.

Looking forward to spinning this some more.
