If you are curious, just find the seven songs' common denominator and you've got my EP's title.

i'm also pretty sure that EP is full, then

interesting that the two songs I arbitrarily put down as Lethean's were actually his, though. hmm.

Oh c'mon... previous rounds were 12 full albums.  So now that there's 20(ish) less minutes per submission, that should shorten the round by a commensurate 33%.

Let's go!!!  Snip snip; chop chop.

personally i feel judging EPs is harder than judging albums because instead of considering a lot of songs all from one artist that are going to have some commonality between them you're judging upwards of 5 songs by a lot of different artists & as well the artistic expression of the sender is going to factor in as well

with albums I don't bother to judge songs individually but with EPs I definitely would & that would slow things down a bit for me, which is why I'm not planning to do too many rounds in my upcoming EP roulette (as well as that it takes a lot more effort for a player to put together a 40 minute EP than it does for them to go "lol here's a 60 minute album enjoy")

Wait, the writeups are coming soon already? I'm going to reveal my EP then! Enjoy this unedited slab of cheese:

Hey!

I didn't have much time or willpower to do something big, and anyway, I already did one of those for you, so this time I'm taking a different approach, and instead of doing the whole big writeup of a story, I'm going to give you a blurb of a story, like they do on the back cover for books. You can follow the EP story with that blurb and interpret it as you will. I'll do a short explanation about which track is related to what, too.

First off, and this is important, I did the whole file with transitions in Audacity with mp3 320 kpbs files, and then I exported it as also mp3 320 kbps, so it could be overcompressed somehow I guess? I'll also include the Spotify link for you to check out the music quality in case it was somehow lowered during my tampering with it.

Second, I hope nothing is banned. Rewriting the story and the EP structure is going to be a lot of pain.

Third, the EP structure is somewhat unconventional. I was aiming at something like Winter's Gate, where it could possibly be taken as one song, which kinda didn't work, but still. I already gave you a standard EP (opener - awesome song - ballad - closing epic), so this time I tried a different approach.

Now, regarding the tracks (you should probably read this after the writeup): the first two tracks are setting up the Stone's Reach champion and general layout and mood in the city. The third track is obviously his opponent's theme. The fourth track signifies the day when the battle commences, as both champions see and interact with each other (growls / clean vocals). The fifth track is the story of Skein's journey from the beginning to the end as the stakes are rising higher and higher. The final track is the aftermath of the battle.

I'm deliberately not going to explain my ideas for the plot and how I think the story ends. It's up for you to decide the endings of all three character arcs and the main plot for yourself. Take from the music whatever you think it means.

(It's absolutely pretentious too, as you asked. Just in different format now!)

Okay, here we go. Don't forget, it's a book blurb format.

Reach Out for the Skies (2018)

1. Be'lakor - Venator [00:00 - 08:35]
2. Be'lakor - From Scythe to Sceptre [08:36 - 15:31]
3. Bauda - Ocaso [15:32 - 19:17]
4. Countless Skies - Daybreak [19:18 - 23:33]
5. Skein - Rapier [23:34 - 30:47]
6. Countless Skies - Wanderer [30:48 - 38:06]

Reach Out for the Skies

The endless war between Stone’s Reach and the Kingdom of Countless Skies has been going on for centuries.

The Kingdom of Countless Skies has something that the rulers and people of Stone’s Reach were always envious about. The means to escape the neverending darkness, which surrounds the cracked, dying land for miles and miles around the Reach. The means to get to the surface and build their empire there, under the open, welcoming sky. The means to fly. Exhausted from years of endless fighting, resources depleted and population lowered to alarming numbers, the Kingdom resorts to one last desperate measure to win the war, agreeing to determine the victor in a fated duel.

Be’lakor, or the Venator, as he’s been known for the last few hundred years, is the Stone’s Reach chosen champion. Considered immortal and utterly merciless, he’s been sowing death on the battlefields, reaping lives with his scythe as black as night. A dark wizard of immense power and magical prowess, he has a secret to his immortality, locked away in an arcane artifact, hidden away from the world. Not a living soul can stand the ground against him. Yet somewhere deep down, the spark of warmth still flickers inside the hollowness of his soul.

The Kingdom of Countless Skies chooses Ocaso as their champion. The rumors hold that she rides the winds in the falling shade of twilight, and come night, converses with the stars and moon itself. The people call her Ocaso, Whom the Moon a Nightsong Sings. Everyone knows her chances against the Venator are grim, yet a glimmer of hope remains in people’s hearts. As the day of the final battle draws closer, Ocaso prepares to face the impossible challenge for the lives of all the people of her kingdom—and her own family.

Yet still, the Broken Gods, as powerless as they are now, aren’t going to allow such injustice to happen. Determined to balance the scales, they establish a dreamlink with Skein, the only person in the Kingdom of Countless Skies who didn’t develop the ability to fly. Skein, a man of a few words, has been considered an outsider for all his life in the Kingdom. He accepts the Gods’ task and gift, seeing the chance to prove his worth to the skies and, most importantly, to himself. With the Magician’s Judge—the rapier designed to destroy the arcane-infused items—he sets on a journey to the enemy’s lands to abolish the source of the Venator’s immortality. But with each passing hour, his time is running out.

Watch the three threads of fate intertwine in this tale of courage, sacrifice, and hope, as the future of two kingdoms is to be decided. And when the day of final battle comes, and the new dawn rises on a distant horizon upon the land, two champions will clash their weapons under the watchful gaze of the countless skies.

Oh, and since we're sharing writeups, here's mine.

I know I sent Primal Fear in my last EP, but this is an intro/seque song, so I figure it's acceptable for the purposes of my theme.

No trimming necessary, so just load it up on Google Play.

@ Ruslan... you forgot your most notorious writeup .... "Meanwhile, in Russia"

I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

As you said to me once (or perhaps a few times), and I'm paraphrasing here, we only do this kind of jokes to the folks we love. ;)

My writeup, by memory: these songs came out the year I was born.  We develope the basis of our music sense during our first 1000 days of life... No wonder I'm focked up.

Had a pretty dark and heavy EP in mind until I realized some lyrics wouldn't appeal to you (considering your comments on the Brand New record) so have this jolly EP instead.

Sacul - DACUL'S SLOW AND LAZY ASS STILL MANAGED TO PUT TOGETHER THIS COLLECTION OF SONGS FOR HANGMENENG NOW GIMME THE D
Kendrick Lamar - King Kuta
Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
Talk Talk - Desire
Talk Talk - Time It's Time
Sufjan Stevens - 4th of July - Live (from Carrie & Lowell Live)
