Welcome to my first Album Roulette. (second roulette overall)
This will be interesting and there will be a lot of music to listen to. So, let’s get to this.
Rules: 1. Open to anyone. I will be accepting as many people as want to sign up, but there will be a Prelim Round. There will be a few who have immunity in the Prelim round, you will find this info next to your names in the participants list.
2. 10 Rounds
3. Albums rated on a 1-10 scale. And I will use the full scale. If your submission really sucks, you may find yourself getting somewhere in the 1-4 range. I may use quarter/half points if necessary.
4.
Submissions – Please PM submissions. I would very much prefer if albums that are submitted are available on Google play music (since I have a subscription to that and use it the most) or files
(320kbps mp3 or FLAC). I will also accept Spotify or YouTube links as a last resort, but this is not preferred, and I may just conjure up those albums sent by those mediums another way... I
listen to most of my music while I am driving for work through Google play music and would prefer to put all submissions in a playlist on my Google Music App.
5. There may or may not be elimination rounds this time. Haven’t decided and it may depend on how good the albums are.
6. Artists scoring at least a 7/10 will be banned for the rest of the roulette
7. Up to 2 people can send the same artist in any given round. Has to be different albums, for obvious reasons (first come first serve)
8. When sending an album please let me know if there is a specific version I should be listening to (e.g. Live, demo, alternate take, remixed, remastered, etc. etc.)
9. I reserve the right to reject any submission as I’m sure I have forgotten something that should be on my banned list. Therefore, my banned list may change. Be aware of that. I tried to make it as
thorough as possible, but things get missed.
10. …..
11. Profit?
12. Have fun
13. Everyone can send up to 1 double album (up to 140 minutes) for the roulette (only in rounds 2-4 & 6-8). The Concept album round doesn't count towards this and vice-versa.
Alternate Rule 6 (Parama Style). I reserve the right to immediately cut someone if I find that an album is so bad that I can’t finish it.
If you have any questions on the rules or need any clarification or if I just plain forgot something, don’t hesitate to ask or let me know.Participants: (so far)

Music Tastes: First and foremost, my favorite band is and always will be Rush. Having said that, my tastes range pretty much the full gamut of music. I’m mostly into Prog and Metal or some mixture of the two and all their various sub-genre’s (black, death, tech, doom, thrash, etc.). I also really like a lot of Alternative Rock, Electronic music, Classic Rock, Ambient, Post-rock, Indie Rock, Classical, Dream Pop, Synth Pop, Jazz, Blues, Downtempo, Funk, Folk, and the list goes on and on. Mostly what I don’t like is Country music, especially Modern Country (although some older classic Country I’m OK with) and about 99.9% of Radio Pop (Top 40 stuff). Basically, you take your life in to your own hands if you decide to send me Country or Radio Pop. A lot of Hip-Hop is hit or miss with me, but I do enjoy a lot of it (mostly a lot old school and more of the underground and experimental leaning hip hop), just be careful if you go down that route. I also recommend you check out my last.fm profile to get a better idea of what I have been in to recently, it’s linked in my sig.
Some things I have been looking for: Still looking for things similar to Moonsorrow (Verisakeet is my favorite of theirs), Havukruunu or Finsterforst, but I’ve kind of come to terms with the fact that there really isn’t much like them. Folky atmospheric metal similar to Agalloch (again they were pretty much one of a kind). Bands with really slick guitar work similar to Dire Straits, Dave Matthews Band, or John Butler. Prog metal that isn’t all about being super technical all the time. You may be at a disadvantage if you try to find something that fits these because I am looking for very specific things.
The Rounds No themed rounds per se this time, but there will be a couple of rounds with specific rules….
There may or may not be cut off points like my last roulette, but how many I will be cutting will be dependent on how many people sign up. Plus, I need an even amount of people for the final round. I may not cut anyone depending on how good the albums are that are sent to me.
Round 1 – Prelim round (60 minute limit)
Rounds 2-4 - Open (80 minute limit)
Round 5 – EP Round (you know the drill here)
Potential Cut-off Point
Round 6-8 – Open (80 minute limit)
Round 9 – Greatest Hits
Potential Cut-off Point
Final Round – Concept Album
EP round rules- Minimum of 3 songs
- Minimum of 20 minutes. Maximum of 40 minutes
- It is an open round, so no theme, but I would recommend coming up with some kind of theme (lyrical content, style, genre, etc.) for your EP, this could help with flow/cohesiveness
- The EP must contain at least 3 different artists and can not contain more that 2 songs per artist
- each EP will be scored on a 20 point scale
- flow/cohesiveness will be taken in to account and can net you up to an additional 5 points
- The EP containing my favorite song will get 1 additional point
- There will be an additional half point for creativeness of your EP's title
Greatest Hits round rules- 1 band/artist with at least 3 albums
- Minimum of 40 minutes. Maximum of 80 minutes
- Must use at least 1 song from 3 different albums
- each greatest hits album will be scored on a 20 point scale
- flow is not going to be taken in to account, but I don’t want any awkward cuts or songs that just end abruptly because they are supposed to flow in to another. Nothing jarring. I may take away points if you do this.
- The Album containing my favorite song will get 1 additional point
- Come up with a title for your greatest hits compilation. There will be an additional point for the best title
Concept album round rules - Minimum 4 songs
- Minimum 50 minutes. Maximum 140 minutes
- Come up with a conceptual story, preferably bound together (as best as you can) lyrically.
- Must contain at least 4 different artists, with no more than 3 songs per artist. (Intro, Interlude, Segue, Outro songs do not count towards this)
- Each album will be scored on a 20 point scale
- Flow will be highly valued as it can net you up to 10 additional points
- Album title will also be important, the best title will get 1 bonus point
- My favorite song will also get you 1 bonus point
