For those who don't mind spoilers, I can also confirm that this is the fourth DT album in a row where Portnoy will not be contributing lyrics.

Who's Pornoy?

Lemme guess - it's also the 11th DT album without lyrics from KevMo, right?   :lol
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

now all I hope for at this point (seriously) is that Viper King will be on the CD too. If not I'd be very well peeved to put it mildly. Very short though still unfortunately.

unfortunately.

I agree. I've been seeing a lot of people say that the short length means it'll be "no filler", but to me it just means fewer minutes of new music.

That said, I&W is my 2nd favorite album, so if I can appreciate that, then I'll surely appreciate this one

Unfortunately, if you look at the time stamps, vinyl is 61 minutes long, CD is 57. So, it seems we have a song less.

Better short than lackluster moments on the album though.

Yes, but shorter doesn't necessarily mean better.

Yes, but shorter doesn't necessarily means better.

We'll hear the result eventually. I'm just happy that they did it this way, this time around.
Just because an audio CD can take 75+ minutes of music, doesn't mean you have to fill it.

My favourite DT album is 57 minutes long, 8 tracks. So, good times.

Since Out of Reach is a ballad, and everything we know about Pale Blue Dot suggests it'll be an epic closer (LTL or BAI style, not the 20+ minute epics), should we expect themes from Out of Reach to show up in Pale Blue Dot?

Edit: I always forget BAI is not a closer, but it has always been agreed that BAI is the true finale while BTS is the end credits.

B.Lee

But that's probably going to be the "standard" CD version. I imagine there's going to be another version with the bonus track in it. If not, it's definitely going to be available as a digital download, so I wouldn't worry too much about it (unless you only listen to music in CD form).
It sounds like, "ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk, ruk." Instead of the more pleasing kick drum sound of, "gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk, gzarruk."

CD or high resolution download only in my case yes

Since they are with InsideOut now: IO always gives you a CD with the LPs. I also hope that track will be on that CD.
I don't see the sense of not including it.

The same here. Anyways, I always buy at least Deluxe edition. Hopefully there will be one and the bonus track will be on it.

It'll also be only the 11th studio release without any Kevin Moore penned lyrics.

A single should be out in the next couple weeks. The hype is real! :metal

Neither did I.  Beneath the Surface is the closer/true finale/whatever you want to call it.

I don't know, but I too always saw BAI as the finale and BTS something like the credits roll

Yeah, I think JP himself said something along those lines (maybe this is were that idea came from in the first place, and even lead some to thinking that we all agree to that)..

Anyhow, they would certainly would do something they don't do since BAI if there's a 10 minutes song in the album...

Yes, I remember JP saying something like BAI being "the last big statement of the album".

I believe in another interview JLB stated "The Viper King" is the continuing saga of "The Pumpkin King". Can't wait to hear how it ties in.

Maybe it's a sequel to The Cockroach King and also ties into Vector somehow.
