We did this in less than 2 hours, now it's probably going to take a week and a half before results. We suck  :lol

I really do think it has just the one N. That's how Indiscipline, the YouTube uploader, and Wikipedia all spell it.

But yeah, you already finished the hangman and... I've listened to one and a half songs out of the nine songs, one time. :rollin

Kattelox: Rhapsody of Fire - The Mystic Prophecy of the Demonknight
Indiscipline: Chris Squire - Safe (Canon Song)
Parama: Flaming Row - In Appearance - A Portrayal of Figures, Pt. II
Nekov: Eric Gillette - Lost
ShadowNinja 2.0: Frost* - Milliontown
romdrums: Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Tarkus (Live)
Elite: Beardfish - And the Stone Said “If I Could Speak”
Evermind: Flaming Row - Mirage - A Portrayal of Figures, Pt. I
Lethean: Mystery - Another Day

425 do snippets but only post one a day

This is a solid idea.

I almost sent Milliontown as well.

others I considered were:

Spock's Beard - At the End of the Day
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Perihelion Ship - A Rare Thunderstorm in Spring

Between the Buried and Me - Swim to the Moon
The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini
Hey dude slow the fuck down so we can finish together at the same time.

'Canon Song' makes perfect sense.

My other picks were
Wilderun - Ash Memory
Extremities - The Inward Eye

I wouldn't expect either to do nearly as well though

Odyssey's banned, as I know it well, but the rest of these seem like ones to potentially scope out post-roulette.

And yeah, "Canon Song" makes more sense to me than "Cannon."

A google search returned cannon but I do see that all the other say canon so

My options included:

The Flower Kings - I am the Sun , Pt 1
Milliontown
Papir - IIII.III
Spock's Beard - Flow
ELP - Tarkus

I only know three other songs in this bunch. I think mine is more epic than Milliontown and Another Day but that's just because I think anything fantasy-themed and orchestral is inherently more epic than most other stuff. Tarkus however is phenomenal and I would not at all be surprised or disappointed if that takes top spot by a full point or so.

Yeah, that would be fun except for the fact that I would have to listen to a 32-minute song that I probably wouldn't like!

From now until results, this thread is a "talk about your favorite epics thread" that will be occasionally interspersed with snippets and controversy over the spelling of "canon."

If this was an epic round in a Parama roulette, I would have sent The Whirlwind, because it's one of my favorite epics, and also because it would so get Parama back for sending me Light of Day, Day of Darkness.

I was this close to sending Dante's Inferno or Of Michael the Archangel and Lucifer's Fall, Pt. 1... listened to them a lot this weekend, especially Of Michael. Epic all around.

Both of those just sound very interesting to me from the titles, particularly the latter because I'm a huge Paradise Lost fan (not the Symphony X album—the epic poem!).

Hahaha. I hope you'd accept it as it's radically, fundamentally a different artist and sound and everything, but I'd be fine if you banned it too since the composer is largely the same person. Would have to change my EP plans assuming I make it that far :)

I may have to seek a second opinion from someone such as Evermind, but given that description I'm leaning toward allowing it.

I've been very busy and unable to post much lately, but I'd like to thank both Kattelox and jingle boy for helping me out with the epic round. ;)  Just about everything I wanted to send was banned, and then I remembered Another Day. :)

Also, 425, I'm sooooo glad you enjoyed Carolina IV from the live round, even though you didn't care for the quality of the recording.  Angra is pretty amazing.

The Evergrey mini epic selection came to me at the last minute and I'm glad you liked that one too.

I do wish Leprous had fared better though.

I'm definitely excited to delve into Evergrey and Angra. Two bands that had long been on the edge of my radar, but are now a lot closer to the forefront.

I think Leprous just might not be for me. I can recognize their music as good, but I have a hard time getting excited about it. I'm willing to give it another try, though, and they remain not banned.

:hifive:

That's not even their best epic.  And with this year's release, it may or may not make their top 5.

It better score well regardless, because it's a killer tune.

Though, Milliontown will probably take the round - even though it isn't even the best song on the album.

Looking forward to both!

It very well could, but I've also had absolutely no problem mehing DTF favorites in this roulette. At least a couple of times, people have been convinced of what the round winner would be based on DTF popularity, and it hasn't come out that way at all. My lips are sealed as to whether that will be the case here.

In keeping with Parama's recommendation, I'm going to drop a single snippet right now. If things start going faster, I'll speed up to a rate of greater than one per day, but I think I'll keep it to one per post, for the intrigue.

The artist was not really on my radar, but on my very first listen I am very impressed with this epic. It just has a really good feeling to it, both big and personal, with great work on both guitars and keyboards.

I have a hard time picking my favorite epics because epics are generally not my favorites

Like on the new alkaloid album, the epic is one of the weakest songs lol

There's a reason I haven't really done many epics rounds in my roulettes

OOOOOHH!!!  A list.  At DTF?   :o

Assuming the criteria is 10+ minutes?

All-time favorites:
1. Octavarium
2. Xanadu
3. A Change of Seasons
4. The Odyssey
5. Freebird
6. Suite Sister Mary
7. Beauty of the Beast
8. Learning to Live
9. Funeral For A Friend
10. Carouselambra

Current/Modern Epics that give me a raging stiffy...

Road of Bones (IQ)
<and not just because I saw all three live this past weekend>
Drawing The Lines of Mortal Existence (Dimension Act)
Light of Day, Day of Darkness (Green Carnation)
The Light and Shade of Things (Fates Warning)
The Scarecrow (Avantasia)
The Circus of the Tattered and Torn (Daydream XI)
An Ordinary Dream (Enia Momento) (Teramaze)

I'll change the criteria to 15+ because there's too much competition otherwise:

Not listed in order of preference

Seventh Wonder - The Great Escape
Dream Theater - Six Degrees, Octavarium, The Count
While Heaven Wept - The Furthest Shore
Frost* - Milliontown
Steven Wilson - Raider II
Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize
Haken - Celestial Elixir
Devil Doll - The Girl Who Was.. Death, Mr. Doctor

I typed out a list of my favorite epics ever and by the time I finished the Rhapsody list my keyboard melted into a cheesy soup.

I really just have too many favorites to list. Most 'epics' I love (I'm defining them as at least 10 minutes each, with a few exceptions) are from power metal, with very few from prog. One from Guns N' Roses. Lots of great stuff out there in the 'epic' category.
