Guns was not my first choice, but Rich has already listened to Sing To God in the past so I've changed my submission. I'm not confident about the submission but who knows..

Fuck, that's pretty scary.

Cardiacs are probably one of the most controversial bands you could send, and I know Guns struck a chord with me basically instantly.

I have to root for my own album of course, but I wouldn't be mad if I lost to Guns. Besides my own, I only know that album and A Dream In Static but I don't like that album at all apart from 2 or 3 songs (pretty much just the Daniel Tompkins and Lajon Witherspoon tracks and to a lesser extent the first track, and the Soilwork singer one is ok too)

Like I said I considered that one & I've seen em live and all and they're great but having about half the album be instrumental (and then two of the instrumentals being pretty meh) felt like a risk I didn't want to take

it's a good album though

Train you might like dreamgrave but also maybe not dunno

Anyways I have a big list of stuff I wanna send whether or not I get cut this round so it barely makes a difference anyways

For what it's worth guns would've gotten rule 6'ed in my roulette if it was eligible/sent, since i literally could not finish it

For what I know about OWEL it seems a band that could do well this round. I read a review on an italian music blog I follow a long time ago and listened to a bit of them at that time.

Yea I don't really think of A Dream in Static as an instrumental album. It has guest vocalists on most of the tracks and I don't feel like the actual instrumentals feel like "background music", like I often do with purely instrumental tracks.

Good to know I wasn't the only one who thought of sending it.

Semi final first impressions, part 1 of 3

#1 This match up seems to be between a reasonably safe submission, and a somewhat risky one. Both are pretty great to be honest. Atter one listen of each, my initial feeling is that the safe bet will have the better staying power, partly because it really taps into my love of a couple of other bands. But then the riskier one was really cool, so anything could happen. Time will tell.

#3 Like match #1, one of these is somewhat riskier than the other, based on my tastes. They both sound pretty solid, but neither wowed me on first listen. One has a nice fusion of two different styles that worked surprisingly well, and was pretty immediately enjoyable but I'm not too sure about its staying power. The other had quite a lot going on so I think I'll need some more listens to get my head round it.
