Here's two more, these were really difficult to rate. Last two hopefully tomorrow!

Round Two results, 9/11
Results 1-2 here: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=52779.msg2465172#msg2465172
Results 3-5 here: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=52779.msg2465349#msg2465349
Results 6-7 here: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=52779.msg2465862#msg2465862

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings of Leon – Come Around Sundown (2010), submitted by Katt
First impression: I’ve heard some of their songs before but never a whole album. It’s nice. Surprised at how much it sounds like a particular other band at times, particularly in the vocals.

Final opinion: This is the album I've been struggling a bit to rate. It's really nice music and I like it a lot, and I feel silly for never giving them a proper listen before. Partly due to the vocals, there are quite a few moments that sound like a much lighter Thrice, which really surprised me. What I've struggled to decide is to what extent I think it's just really nice or whether I like it more than that. My favourite songs are definitely those that are more serious and soulful - the album starts and ends brilliantly, for example, and there are other highlights. But there are also quite a few in a more laid back style that are perfectly pleasant but not especially interesting (Back Down South and Beach Side particularly come to mind). On balance, it doesn't excite me enough to quite make the 4 star mark, but it's a very solid 7.5.
Score: 7.5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eidola – Degeneraterra (2015), submitted by Parama
First impression: Some very cool stuff here. Yet another where there's a lot to take in. Going to take more listens.

Final opinion: So yeah it was a pretty safe bet that I’d like this quite a lot, and I do, though not quite as much as the Odd Palace album. I can definitely see that this is your kind of post-hardcore - technical and proggy but also raw and a little rough around the edges, and it’s really enjoyable and exciting for all those reasons. Instrumentally it has a bit in common with Closure in Moscow (plus a moth image on the artwork and a song called First Temple, which is kinda weird) and the playing is similarly excellent. I think my rating would have been higher (and I thought it might be after my first listen) if the vocal lines did more for me. Some of them are really good - Humble Ledger was an early favourite and it remains so - but a lot of them just don’t have the hooks to really grab me. Not enough of an issue to stop this still being a really great album, but enough to stop it being an amazing one.
Score: 8.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ranking so far

1= Luoto     = 8.5 + 8.0 = 16.5
1= Parama   = 8.5 + 8.0 = 16.5
1= Lethean  = 8.0 + 8.5 = 16.5
1= Train      = 8.0 + 8.5 = 16.5
5   Luke*     = 7.5 + 8.5 = 16.0
6= Katt        = 8.0 + 7.5 = 15.5
6= Sacul*    = 7.5 + 8.0 = 15.5
6= Puppies* = 7.5 + 8.0 = 15.5
9   TAC*      = 7.5 + 7.5 = 15.0
-----------------------------------------
?   LordCost = 8.0 + ? = ?
?   Jingle*    = 7.5 + ? = ?

Totally fair assessment as even to this day I still mix up Beach Side, Pony Up, and No Money with each other. What did you think about the song The Face? That's my favorite on the album, like you my favorites are the serious and soulful ones. Really happy you liked that - it's a top 10 all time album for me.

Gotta do better next round though :)
From a Mega Man Legends island jamming power metal to a Walrus listening to black metal, I like your story arc.

The Face is great. My other fave (apart from the opener and closer) is The Immortals, such a warm chorus!

darn, this 4-way tie  :lol
Yeah it's close at the top. :lol

I mean, only those who scored 7.5 or more made it to round 2, but I didn't expect quite such a consistently strong round.

Alithia – To the Edge of Time (2014), submitted by Jingle
First impression: Nice album, lots of different ideas and things going on. Going to take more listens.

Final opinion: To be honest, part-way through the first track, I did wonder if this was going to be another solid-enough-but-not-hugely-exciting album, but as the album goes on it goes in all sorts of interesting and surprising directions. The production isn’t especially strong at times, and which affected the start of my first impression (particularly that guitar lead early on, which sounds slightly amateurish), but across the album overall it works for some reason and creates a gorgeous atmosphere throughout. Just goes to show that although certain things tend to speak to me, like strong production, there are no hard and fast rules. Even though it covers a lot of different moods and styles, there’s something about the vibe that’s quite consistent. Not everything is great, but there’s so much good stuff that it’s a strong album overall. It’s a strange submission really - it’s not a style that’s prevalent in either of our listening habits - but a successful one. Also, between this and the last roulette, your score has increased with every submission. I wonder how long you can keep it up (giggity).
Score: 8.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mr. Bungle – California (1999), submitted by LordCost
First impression: Guess what… lots to take in! Which I expected, but there's definitely a lot of good stuff on here.

Final opinion: Lots of cool stuff, and this is definitely a big improvement over their debut. In fact, this might edge out Angel Dust as my favourite Mike Patton album. I dig the quirkiness of it, which isn’t as off-the-wall as some of the stuff on the debut (from what I remember anyway) but is genuinely entertaining. And it’s nicely balanced with some more straightforward tunes, some of which are absolutely cracking (Retrovertigo especially, but Pink Cigarette has a real charm as well). As with everything of Patton’s though, there’s stuff that just doesn’t quite work so well for me. I apparently don’t love Ars Moriendi as much as you - about half of it is so damn cool, but overall it’s just a bit too bonkers for me I think. Even some of the songs that start really well just seem to go on too long doing the same thing. So yeah, a really enjoyable album overall, but doesn’t do it for me consistently enough to reach that coveted 8/10 rating.
Score: 7.5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ranking after round 2

1= Luoto      = 8.5 + 8.0 = 16.5
1= Parama   = 8.5 + 8.0 = 16.5
1= Lethean  = 8.0 + 8.5 = 16.5
1= Train      = 8.0 + 8.5 = 16.5
5   Luke*     = 7.5 + 8.5 = 16.0
6= Katt        = 8.0 + 7.5 = 15.5
6= LordCost = 8.0 + 7.5 = 15.5
6= Sacul*    = 7.5 + 8.0 = 15.5
6= Puppies* = 7.5 + 8.0 = 15.5
6= Jingle*    = 7.5 + 8.0 = 15.5
9   TAC*       = 7.5 + 7.5 = 15.0

Ska punk

Guess again  :hat
According to RYM:

Genres
Punk Rock, Ska

:lol

They're part of the punk scene, some of their songs have ska elements but they are in no way a ska punk band. It's more folk punk (which is why I sent them to you) with ska elements in the odd song. You'll see what I mean when you listen.

I love that Cardiacs album!
I was just thinking about sending a Cardiacs album this round..
Have you thought about sending Guns while you were reading jingle's post?  :huh:

My next submission instead is about one of your bands Train, but I made it for real  ;D
During last two weeks I'm listening to the album I have submitted and to Artificial Language, and they're both nice new discoveries.

As for California, I hoped for an even higher score,but it's still fine. I also prefer the first half of Ars Moriendi to the second one, and maybe Golem II is another one that start to bore me as it goes by. But both these two and the other songs of the album are such a strong display of creativity, songwriting and sense of melody combined together that I find it not right to talk bad about them.
