Oh go on, have a couple more. I was hoping to post three but I can't make up my mind on the rating of the third (but which could it be?!), so that's going to need another listen and be posted (probably along with at least one more) tomorrow.

Enslaved – RIITIIR (2012), submitted by PuppiesFirst impression: Feels like a band I should have checked out before. Some really great stuff. Not sure about the vocals yet.
Final opinion: Now that I’m checking out genre definitions on RYM of all these submissions, I’m finally understanding some definitions I’ve never really paid attention to before, like the difference between black metal and death metal. And I now realise I have very little black metal that I’ve liked in the past, but well done on finding a band that is largely black metal based but that I really dig. To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the more raspy vocals although they do work at times, particularly in the more atmospheric moments. But Enslaved use a good variety of vocal styles, including more guttural growls as well as some rich clean vocals, and so it’s all pretty well balanced and keeps things interesting. Same with the instrumentation. There’s a lot of very cool music on this album, even the less interesting tracks are decent and are anyway outweighed by the good stuff. I’m not sure how often I’ll want to listen to this in future, but I like it and it fills a niche that nothing else I listen to fills.

Little Tybee – Little Tybee (2016), submitted by TrainFirst impression: Nice album, not what I was expecting. Reminiscent of some other bands I quite like but still sounds fairly unique.
Final opinion: What a lovely album. Really nice indie folk with clear proggy influences. Reminds me quite a bit of The River Empires in that regard and even sounds a little like them on occasion, but at other times sounds more like artists such as Kings of Convenience and Joanna Newsom. There are definitely some tracks that feel a bit filler to me, but even those are perfectly pleasant and enjoyable. But the highlights are great. You’d mentioned More Like Jason in your submission, and I wasn’t really paying attention to individual songs but on my first two listens found myself loving one section, and indeed it turned out to be the jam at the end of that song. The album is a real grower too, further listens really bring out how surprisingly intricate a lot of the instrumentation is, which isn’t immediately obvious because of how cute it all sounds. So a pretty inspired pick really.
