If you don't mind, I have a few post-roulette album recommendations that you might dig.
Not only do I not mind, I actively encourage it, as I did back in round one. That applies to everyone who goes out at any stage - please feel free to send me other suggestions (either by PM, or wait until the roulette finishes and post in the thread) and I'll check them out and report back once the roulette is over.
Anyway, how about some more results?

THIRD PLACE
Train
Round 5 submission: King Goat – Debt of Aeons (2018)First impression: Not your best submission but I like it still. Kinda weird and kinda cool.
Final opinion: I mean, I know it’s doom metal and all, but good lord this is bleak, miserable music. It’s like if Scott Walker made doom metal. I have to give you credit for finding yet more music that’s unlike anything else I listen to, but that I still like. There’s a dark, theatrical style throughout which, combined with the operatic vocals, works really well to make it all incredibly moody, pretty epic and a little bit weird, all of which is great. I think it’s held back however by being a bit samey - the mood and style never really shifts. Each listen I’m digging it loads at the start, but after a while I start to lose interest. I don’t think there’s any tapering off in quality, I think it just gets too much. The sections I love tend to be those that are a little different - the title track (the first half especially) definitely stands out in that regard, and Psychasthenia is a nice atmospheric instrumental that provides some welcome respite.
Score: 7.5
Total score = 8.0 + 8.5 + 9.0 + 7.5 + 7.5 = 40.5--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELIMINATED
Puppies
Round 5 submission: Devil Sold His Soul – Blessed & Cursed (2010)First impression: This goes pretty intense for the genre at times, more than I tend to enjoy, but there’s something about it that was very engaging on this first listen.
Final opinion: There’s a really good mix of styles on this album. Overall I’d put it very much within post-hardcore, but it goes very intense at times (particularly vocally where it occasionally goes a little screamo/metalcore for my tastes) and very ambient at others. It actually sort of reminds me of Bring Me The Horizon in a number of places. The only minor criticism I’d have (in addition to not digging some of the screamy moments) is that a couple of the songs have sections that get a little repetitive and start to drag. But honestly these are minor gripes. Overall it’s a varied, dynamic and engaging listen, and the half or so of the album that is really strong makes up for the parts that aren’t so interesting to me.
Score: 8.0
Total score = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 = 39.5An identical performance to Sacul, but with an almost opposite set of albums. Fantastic consistency and a great set of excellent albums, just none that managed to creep above that 8/10 mark. Enslaved is the one I’m most excited to check out more, but the AFI was a lovely mix of nostalgia and really good music, and the two post-hardcore albums were both really strong and I’ll be exploring those more as well. Thanks for sending such a varied mix of good music!
