lol there's a 1.5 point difference between 1 and 10 I'm crying

Everyone can now estimate a 1.5 point range for their score this round, mine is between 7.0 and 8.5  :corn

Incidentally, TAC got at least an 8.5

Ranking so far

1   Train       = 8.0 + 8.5 + 9.0 + 7.5 = 33.0
2= Parama   = 8.5 + 8.0 + 8.5 + 7.5 = 32.5
2= Luoto      = 8.5 + 8.0 + 7.5 + 8.5 = 32.5
2= Luke       = 7.5 + 8.5 + 8.0 + 8.5 = 32.5
5= Lethean   = 8.0 + 8.5 + 8.0 + 7.5 = 32.0
5= LordCost  = 8.0 + 7.5 + 9.5 + 7.0 = 32.0
7= Jingle      = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.5 + 7.5 = 31.5
7= Puppies   = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 = 31.5
7= Sacul      = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 = 31.5
10= Katt      = 8.0 + 7.5 + 7.5 + 8.0 = 31.0
10= TAC      = 7.5 + 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.0 = 31.0

-----------------------------------------

So.... 32 points was the cut line for 6 people, and 39.5 is 10th place.  I need an 8.5 or better just to score higher than 10th place.  TAC is getting at least an 8.5 this round (edit... ninja'd), and without a 9 or higher, I'm toast.  Considering there's only been a single 9, and a single 9.5 out of 44 scores ...

If you don't mind, I have a few post-roulette album recommendations that you might dig.
Not only do I not mind, I actively encourage it, as I did back in round one. That applies to everyone who goes out at any stage - please feel free to send me other suggestions (either by PM, or wait until the roulette finishes and post in the thread) and I'll check them out and report back once the roulette is over.

Anyway, how about some more results?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
THIRD PLACE
Train
Round 5 submission: King Goat – Debt of Aeons (2018)

First impression: Not your best submission but I like it still. Kinda weird and kinda cool.

Final opinion: I mean, I know it’s doom metal and all, but good lord this is bleak, miserable music. It’s like if Scott Walker made doom metal. I have to give you credit for finding yet more music that’s unlike anything else I listen to, but that I still like. There’s a dark, theatrical style throughout which, combined with the operatic vocals, works really well to make it all incredibly moody, pretty epic and a little bit weird, all of which is great. I think it’s held back however by being a bit samey - the mood and style never really shifts. Each listen I’m digging it loads at the start, but after a while I start to lose interest. I don’t think there’s any tapering off in quality, I think it just gets too much. The sections I love tend to be those that are a little different - the title track (the first half especially) definitely stands out in that regard, and Psychasthenia is a nice atmospheric instrumental that provides some welcome respite.
Score: 7.5
Total score = 8.0 + 8.5 + 9.0 + 7.5 + 7.5 = 40.5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELIMINATED
Puppies
Round 5 submission: Devil Sold His Soul – Blessed & Cursed (2010)

First impression: This goes pretty intense for the genre at times, more than I tend to enjoy, but there’s something about it that was very engaging on this first listen.

Final opinion: There’s a really good mix of styles on this album. Overall I’d put it very much within post-hardcore, but it goes very intense at times (particularly vocally where it occasionally goes a little screamo/metalcore for my tastes) and very ambient at others. It actually sort of reminds me of Bring Me The Horizon in a number of places. The only minor criticism I’d have (in addition to not digging some of the screamy moments) is that a couple of the songs have sections that get a little repetitive and start to drag. But honestly these are minor gripes. Overall it’s a varied, dynamic and engaging listen, and the half or so of the album that is really strong makes up for the parts that aren’t so interesting to me.
Score: 8.0
Total score = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 + 8.0 = 39.5

An identical performance to Sacul, but with an almost opposite set of albums. Fantastic consistency and a great set of excellent albums, just none that managed to creep above that 8/10 mark. Enslaved is the one I’m most excited to check out more, but the AFI was a lovely mix of nostalgia and really good music, and the two post-hardcore albums were both really strong and I’ll be exploring those more as well. Thanks for sending such a varied mix of good music!

Welcome to the losers club and to 7.0 club, Katt!

Amateurs. The 6.5 Lounge is where it's at. Stadler and me sorrounded by splendid out of fashion pop-prog babes.

Firstly, thanks to everyone who got eliminated in round one. I've no doubt you'd all have sent me some great stuff if I'd somehow had time to keep you all in, but alas I couldn't. A first round is always quite risky, and all the albums you sent were good, just not as aligned to my tastes as the others. But you all introduced me to stuff that I liked and might never have heard otherwise, so thank you!

Thank you, good sir. It was fun and instructive.

First off, pretty on point review of the album I'd say! I have it at 8/10 but on my last listen it did feel a bit more repetitive than ideal. I'm still super hyped about this band but also wanted to hold on to the albums I think you'd like better for the knock-out stages. So since the semi finals are now 6 instead of 4 people, I would go up gainst #4, correct? I look forward to find out who I will be facing :corn

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
JOINT THIRD PLACE
LordCost
Round 5 submission: Vangough – Between the Madness (2013)

First impression: Not wholly original and not the best production, but neither of those things seem to stop this from being really strong stuff.

Final opinion:  This is excellent stuff. The lack of originality comes in the form of a really strong Daniel Gildenlow influence in the sound. It often sounds like Pain of Salvation - principally Entropia as it's quirkier than POS had been since then, thought the closer is pure Scarsick. But it also goes into jam-prog territory from time to time, which POS has never touched but Gildenlow has done in TFK and The Sea Within. And yeah, the production is serviceable but not great. Thing is, neither of those things bother me here. The sound is good enough, and actually the rawness works well in the more intensely emotional sections. And the music has enough of its own flavour that it doesn't feel derivative despite the obvious influences. And frankly, the music is just so good for most of the album that it more than compensates for any shortcomings.
Score: 8.5
Total score = 8.0 + 7.5 + 9.5 + 7.0 + 8.5 = 40.5

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
ELIMINATED
Jingle
Round 5 submission: Kepler Ten – Delta-v (2017)

First impression: Solid album in a genre that tends to have mixed performance in my roulettes.

Final opinion: As you know from experience, neo-prog (which I’m definitely counting this as) can be pretty hit or (near-)miss for me. But in Kepler Ten you’ve found some where our tastes seem to align pretty well, because I really like this. For me, neo-prog is at its best when it blends old-fashioned prog with modern twists in interesting and exciting ways. This doesn’t go as far as, say, Frost* in embracing modern sensibilities, but it nonetheless mixes together old and new in very enjoyable ways, with some absolutely terrific playing. The lead guitarist, in particular, has some great chops but more importantly real class and charisma in his playing. The standout song for me is definitely Time and Tide, which I absolutely loved on first listen and still do - such a great fusion of neo-prog and Muse influences. And there’s other great stuff too. Some of the more classic rock sounding stuff (like The Stone and moments in other songs) I find slightly bland, though still very competently done and enjoyable enough. Overall, a strong album.
Score: 8.0
Total score = 7.5 + 8.0 + 8.5 + 7.5 + 8.0 = 39.5

You “beat” Sacul and Puppies on alphabetical ordering! I'm so glad I opened this roulette to people who took part in my last one, and thankful that you weren't deterred from trying again. You've definitely got a good handle on where our tastes align - I really liked everything you sent me, the Ábime especially (which I'd want to purchase anyway, but definitely will to support Lalo) but the Alithia and Kepler Ten albums were also awesome and pretty unique, and are on my “to consider buying” list as well. So with your performance improving all the time, next time I do a roulette you'll win it, right?

Damn this is tight. Some of the albums I've sent in this roulette would've got me cut a long time ago, in anyone else's  :lol

I'll take the 8!  Still not sure I really have a handle on exactly where our tastes overlap, but I'm glad I found better stuff for you this time around.

Just a shame that I have to endure another shaming at the fingers of TAC for him beating me in another roulette.  :lol
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I think killing a moderator could get you banned from the forum....possibly...

Hey Stadler, your PM inbox is full.
Derek Sherinian probably stands 10 feet away from the urinal, shoots from downtown, and announces loudly that he's making history.
