The Sabbath tune is Megalomania, which BTW, is the best Ozzy Era Sabbath tune.

It might be, but I wouldn't know since it's not what Stads sent.

The BTBAM song is 'Desert of Song', which is hardly a song that represents the band well

Considering the host that's probably a good thing.

desert of song is really good but i think mirrors is the better nonmetal song on the album tbh
TGM is their best album though honestly and it's not even close, even with as much as I do like Colors

No way. The 5 song run from Sun of Nothing to White Walls is flawless and that makes COlors the best BTBAM album easily. Although I must say I'm completely biased; Colors was the right album at the right time for me back when it was released. I don't know The Great Misdirect (or any of their other records) nearly half as well as Colors. I find most of their stuff too tiring to listen to for a full album, which is why I actually enjoyed the Automata split. I don't have the same issue with Colors, because I know that one pretty much by heart.

gonna be honest a good chunk of the metal on colors still doesn't do much for me, they basically toned down all the chugga chug metal elements by TGM though (or at least, the ones that do remain mostly on DIM work way better than the stuff on colors) which is basically all they needed to do to make their best album imo

colors probably has the highest peaks though, the end of Sun of Nothing and the entire second half or so of White Walls are excellent

The difference is that Colors has Prequel to the Sequel and TGM does not. For BTBAM standards, I really think that's an average tune

TGM>Parallax>Colors (and Automata might enter this top 3 over time, I don't know yet)
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

parallax I is solid but II never clicked for me, feels overlong with some outright filler tracks (extremeophile elite in particular) and just feels like where they pushed too far with the prog/wackiness and something broke as a result. never considered it more than an "okay" album though there are some good songs

anyways jingle cares about absolutely zero of this

If any tune on Colors is 'average' that would be The Decade of Statues or Informal Gluttony.

Prequel to the Sequel is fantastic.

Honestly the best songs on TGM are the two soft ones, the rest have some good parts but mostly just seem like mush. TGM was around when Tommy's harshes got way less diverse, but before they really ramped up the amount of cleans to level it out. Most of the songs honestly just come across as monotonous to me. Which is too bad, because there are cool parts here and there, like the funky ragtime piano bit, or the chorus of Swim to the Moon.

:lol I was going to say it's the hidden track at the end of The Need for Repetition.

Honestly I was pretty close to just saying screw it and sending Swim to the Moon for this round, but I chicken'd out. Didn't think anyone else would even entertain the idea of sending Chad BtBaM.

Indeed.

And fourth impressions:

While I'm quite certain this band would NEVER click with me, you picked a pretty enjoyable tune.

should be right in the jingle wheelhouse… but something seemed a couple of degrees off

great music… vocals were not terrible, but didn't make it a better song

not unenjoyable, but this kind of <style> didn't quite have the pieces that float my boat

Not sure what I can say right now that won't outright giveaway whose submission this is

I KNEW I recognized the vocalist

Holy <certain artist> vibe!  Simply gorgeous, smooth flowing, just makes me feel all warm inside.

Fairly standard metal, imo… <vocalist> just doesn't float my boat

Amazing that <certain artist> didn't sue for ripping off that riff

Nice recovery… this is <style> done right

Not sure why you were worried... I had no problem getting 'in' to this tune

Melancholic, but beautifully so

vocally… not feeling it; musically… just ok at the moment; 2nd half better than first

Vocals were all over the place

Nothing bad about it, I just wasn't wow'd

I was worried about this submission, as everything I've sampled from this act in the past was underwhelming… the trend continues

Great tune though. One of my fave Alice songs. It’s so evil.
Love the double bass drumming from Ken Mary.

Ugly bass player though.
