There are three big moments that radically changed what music I listen to:
1) Discovering Dream Theater back in 09, which led to me getting into prog metal and symphonic metal
2) Going to music school and being exposed to all sorts of music, which got me into classical, jazz, and musicals
3) and making a conscious decision to listen to more music and more kinds of music. It led to an explosion in my tastes and now I have a lot more favorite bands to give my attention to.
But overall favorite probably 311 -> Seether/Incubus -> Dream Theater.
