Miroslav Vitous played with Joe Zawinul in Weather Report
Joe Zawinul played with Miles Davis
Miles Davis played with Billy Cobham
Billy Cobham hosted Tommy Bolin's greatest performance in Spectrum
Tommy Bolin was in Deep Purple

The Police

Nice work!

Sting played bass with the Police with Stewart Copeland
Stewart Copeland played drums on Peter Gabriel's So record
Peter Gabriel was in Genesis with Phil Collins
Phil Collins played on Robert Plant's solo record
Robert Plant was in Led Zeppelin with Jimmy Page
Jimmy Page did Coverdale/Page with David Coverdale, who was in Deep Purple

BTW, has anyone used Jon Lord or Tommy Glover as the connection to Deep Purple?  I'm mostly seeing connections through David Coverdale, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Morse and Ian Gillian.

Next band: Asia

I have used Jon Lord, and I'm going to do it again:

1. Andy Summers was in the Police
2. Andy Summers played guitar on Jon Lord's album "Sarabande"
3. Jon Lord tinkled the ivories for Deep Purple

Is this dead already?

Brent suggested the band City Boy, but either no-one saw it or no-one knows them (I know I had to google, never heard of them before, and haven't so far found the connection).

Well at least I finally got a band that didn't get solved  in 5 minutes but we don't want 5 days.

I'll provide the solution (and something easier) in a few hours if nobody gets it.

Mike Slamer of City Boy also played in the band Streets with
Steve Walsh who played in Kansas with
Steve Morse who is in Deep Purple

If someone else has a band to nominate, go ahead. I got nothing right now.

I was going to make fun of City Boy (and I still might:  their lead singer's first name is "Lol".  Lol.  :))  but their first four or five records were produced by  Mutt Lange, and one of the guys (not "LOL" or Slammer) co-wrote "She-Bop" for Cyndi Lauper.   Not bad.

I hope this is right (doesn't violate the rules)

Don Dokken sang on Vanden Plas live album
George Lynch played with DD on a bunch of albums
Tommy Aldrich was in Lynch Mob
Aldrich was also in Whitesnake with David Coverdale
Coverdale sang a bit for Deep Purple

I can't do that one without guest spots (Anneke sang on two Wetton/Downes songs... take it from there) but I will take the opportunity to say that I am enamored of Anneke van Giersbergen.

I'm assuming that any of your intended connections go through Ayreon, which really consists solely of one musician and a ton of guests rather than actual members.

How about this:

1. Anneke van Giersbergen sang for VUUR
2. Anneke van Giersbergen sang for The Devin Townsend Project (she's on "By A Thread")
3. Devin Townsend was in Steve Vai's band ("Sex And Religion")
4. Steve Vai was in Whitesnake with David Coverdale
5. David Coverdale made us burn! in Deep Purple

I got as far as Missa Mercuria and Dennis Ward, and thinking Dennis Ward has played with everyone so there has to be a connection.

Which Keane are we talking about Stads - there was one active in the 90's onward (UK)  and another different band (USA) around early 80's?

If it's the latter then I have a couple of very convoluted ideas - if it's the 90's band then fuggedaboutit :lol

I was talking the 90's UK band.   If not familiar, you might want to check them out.  The first two albums are really good.   Kind of Duke-era Genesis keyboards with a sort of Freddie Mercury like vocal...   After the second album they started to get "pop-y" and not in a good way.  Synth-y and dance-y, more guitars less keyboards, but again, not in a good way.

But the first two?    Stellar.   Marillion has been known to bust out "Bedshaped" (my favorite song from the first album, "Hopes and Fears") on occasion.  I actually like the second album better as a whole, even if there is no one song as good as "Bedshaped" or "Somewhere Only We Know".

OK so this thread died but here is another twist:

Who on DTF can claim a degree of connection to Deep Purple?  I can.

I played drums with my bro, Richard Turner, in the ZYM band.
My bro played bass in Toyz, with Terry Brock as lead singer.
Terry Brock sang back up vocals on Kansas' Drastic Measures
Phil Ehart- Steve Morse-Purple

Anyone else?
But the arc of your life will still be profound

I can, in the most possible not-rock kind of way and without resorting to the Drumming Dad.

In 2015 I directed and performed in the operetta "White Horse Inn" in Palermo, Sicily. Conductor was Alberto Maniaci.
In 2012 Alberto Maniaci conducted Ian Paice with the Palermo Conservatory Orchestra.
Ian Paice is known to fock around with Deep Purple cover bands occasionally.

I can.

1. I sang in my high school band, "Ground Zero" with Steve Bunovsky, guitar player.
2. Steve Bunovsky was in Hannah Cranna which put out an album produced by (and featuring guitar from) Joey Molland.
3. Joey Molland played guitar and sang in Badfinger; so did Tom Evans
4. Tom Evans was hand-picked by Paul McCartney to sing the song "Come And Get It", while Macca was producing Badfinger (three songs for a movie soundtrack)
5. Paul McCartney used Ian Paice as his drummer on the album "Run Devil Run"
6. Ian Paice slaps the traps in Deep Purple.

OR
3. Tony Kaye did an album and tour with Badfinger in 1981.
4. Tony Kaye was in Yes with Rick Wakeman (Union)
5. Rick Wakeman played with Ozzy Osbourne (both in Sabbath and on at least one Wakeman solo album).
6. Ozzy was in The Blizzard of Ozzy with Don Airey.
7. Don Airey tickles the ivory with Deep Purple.
