Few of mine have gone the way I was thinking either  :lol

Exactly.

I was sure the only viable Elton John path was Jean-Luc Ponty - Mahavishnu - Billy Cobham - Tommy Bolin - DP, but TAC heavymetaled me without mercy.

Yea, we probably should stop with the guest spot connections or we'll wind up with: "Tom Morello once said something nice about Steve Harris who is influenced by Glenn Hughes. Bam!"

Yeah I thought that's what Bosk said in the OP, but then I saw a bunch of people including guest spots or random collaborations in their connections, so I thought it was fair game  :lol

Wait a second though; don't the PEOPLE have to play together?   Meaning, Wolfgang and Sam didn't actually play together in Van Halen.  I suppose it doesn't matter; you just add an additional step...  "Wolfie played with Ed, Ed played with Sam... etc." but still...

We need a ruling from Bosk; I get that Eddie playing on "Beat It" is a guest spot and I can see that not counting.    But if a guy played an entire session, or did an entire tour (as Phil Collins did with Tull, as well as Plant) I think that ought to count.

Ah, I hadn't even thought of that.  Good one.  I was only thinking of Stef and Jimmy, and there are a few ways to get there using them.  I wasn't aware of any other connections (unless, of course, I were to suspend the rule about guest appearances, in which case Stars would be fair game and you could pretty much link anybody in the '80s to anybody else).

Wait a second though; don't the PEOPLE have to play together?

I think this is a good question, and one that we ought to agree on going forward.

My vote is; No. Because it is largely being ignored and it makes the game more difficult if the six degrees of separation are bands not people.

Let me just say that "Restless Heart" is a great record.  "Don't Fade Away" is a top five Whitesnake song for me (though the version from "Starkers In Tokyo" is the definitive one).

Just the opposite, no?   It's harder if it's PEOPLE.    If it's bands, then Peter Banks is directly related to Geoff Downes, and that's not right, since they never (to my knowledge) were even in the same room together.  They certainly have never been in my kitchen.

Hah, I get your point, and it's a good one. I guess we should get a ruling from Bosky. I was thinking, because there are so many bands that have had dozens of members, it makes it harder to backtrack by just Googling.
