Forum game: Six Degrees of Deep Purple
« on: July 09, 2018, 05:01:32 PM »
Anyone remember this from a LONG time ago?

How it works:  I name a band.  First person to post a chain of band members comprising NO MORE than six links to Deep Purple gets to post the next band.  And so on and so on.  Only rock/metal bands, please.  And if you post a band, you have to know of a definite 6-degrees-or-less link.  You can only use musicians who were members of bands.  Tours, unofficial collaborations, guest spots on albums, etc. do not count (if they were a touring musician for a given band, that's fine; but having that member tour with a different band doesn't count).

For example, if I said "Iron Maiden," it would go like this:
1.  Janick Gers - member of Iron Maiden
2.  Janick Gers was in Gillian with Ian Gillan
3.  Ian Gillan sang with Deep Purple

Easy, right?

Okay, I'll start with an easy one that has a bunch of possible connections:  Dream Theater

Go!

Unless I'm misunderstanding:

Mike Portnoy -> Steve Morse

I can do
John Myung -> Rod Morgenstein -> Red Beach -> David Coverversion

If that works, I'm going to pick...   Genesis

That's easy.

It'll take too long if the person who posts has to approve it.  His was right (even though he didn't post it properly).  And then you got his, so you are up, TAC.  (OK, not really; we're still on Genesis)

2. Scott Gorham plays in Thin Lizzy with Gary Moore
3. Gary Moore has both Don Airey and Ian Paice in his band

Nice.  There are actually a couple of other ways to get there from Y&T too, I think.  The one I was thinking is actually:
1.  Stef Burns was in Y&T
2.  Stef Burns was in Alice Cooper's band, as was Derek Sherinian
3.  Derek Sherinian was in Dt with Mike Portnoy
4.  Mike Pornoy was in Flying Colors with Steve Morse
5.  Morse in Deep Purple

Carry on...
