I had Amadeus Awad on the short list.  That wasn't Evermind that sent it?

It was indeed Evermind:

1.   Agalloch - Our Fortress Is Burning, Pt. II (Bloodbirds)
2.   Amadeus Awad - Tomorrow Lies (Evermind)
3.   Deep Purple - Sometimes I   Feel Like Screaming  (Stadler)
4.   Dissona - Another Sky (Parama)
5.   Oceansize - Unfamiliar
6.   Perihelion Ship - New Sun?
7.   Port Noir - Any Way the Wind Carries
8.   Portishead - Glory Box
9.   Soul Secret - Behind the Curtain (jingle.boy)
10.   Witherfall - Sacrifice

So far, I like all of these songs at least a little, except one.

Agalloch's growls are much more like a whisper than full on screaming, so I could see that doing well.
People always say that, but I found death growls way easier to get into than BM / atmospheric BM

That may be the case for you, but whoever sent Agalloch, besides patting himself on the back, clearly read the OP. :P

I thought Elite's method of ranking the songs against each other would be better, but I feel like this round is going to be very difficult to rank 1-10.  A lot of good stuff here.  I've haven't gotten into lyrics yet, so that's next and maybe it'll help, and letting some of these songs grow on me for another day or two should help as well.

Some of these aren't on your banned list either so maybe you'll discover them at the same time. :)

I'm convinced that there's no shortage of great music out there; it's just how much can you absorb and enjoy and what crosses your path at the right time, etc.

I've found that Lethean's dislike of double bass drumming has made for a real fun time going through the music I'm dying to send, because it's a good excuse to send something out of left field.  :corn

Well, it's not that I completely hate it, I just generally prefer it to not be constant throughout the whole song.  Even so - I'm sure there are some Angra songs where it's exactly that and I'm OK with it.

Here are some brief snippets from the write-ups.  I feel like the theme of this round is "Really good songs with singers I don't think I like very much..."

1.   I find myself really drawn to the bass and drums on this track.

2.   I don't know what to say about this track, other than I really like it.  I'll try to come up with more for the final writeup, but if not, be happy with the high score. :P

3.   Did I forget to put Symphony X on the banned list?

4.   This track seems to take a while to get going, but about halfway through it's so beautiful.

5.   I saw this band open for [a great band] and hated them, so I wasn't looking forward to this.

6.   This is one of the shortest songs in the roulette, but it feels like the longest.

7.   It's rare that I like and dislike parts of the same song so much.

8.   If I liked the singer on this track as much as the band you compared them to, it might have been the round winner.

9.   This is very much what I was expecting from this band, and I wasn't disappointed.

10.   I had to listen to this track quite a few times to make sense of it.
