Thought my picks would be a slam dunk for exclusively songs from the first two albums, because I think they are miles ahead of the other four, but I love Waiting for the Sun.

I never quite understood the love for The Doors  ???
I know, they were very influential and all.. but I find most of their music super boring. Still, I like some songs. So I picked the obvious

Five To One (because the solo has inspired everyone from Kiss/Ace Frehley to Pearl Jam/McCready)

- The Wasp (Texas Radio and the Big Beat!)


Not a huge Doors fan; I think Jim Morrison was WAY over-rated and while he's a decent player, I don't really care for that calliope sound of Ray Manzarek's keyboard.

Maybe it was a "you had to be there" kind of thing. Something so new and unexpected that caught everyone's attention.

Also Jim Morrison must have played a major role because he was essentially the damned rock n' roll singer stereotype invented, brought to life and dialed up to eleven all at once, and so his persona and fame was enough by itself to draw people in.

I saw the Oliver Stone about Jim and I never disliked or found boring the music I was hearing... not my cup of tea either. Maybe one day I should check out more properly this band...

I was a big fan of the Doors in my late teens, largely because the girlfriend I had when I was 18/19 loved them as well, so we listened to them a lot that year.  I rarely listen to them anymore, but there is no doubting that their music has held up well.  Considering the recording techniques in the late 60's, their first few albums sound really good, especially when you compare them to other albums that came out at the same time.
